User Review - 8/10 by Jochen WWenn Slapstick die Erzählung vom AbreiÃen der sinnhaften Verbindungen zwischen Welt und Ich ist, dann schreibt sich die Geschichte dieser Separation (die immer wieder mit Ãberdehnungen und Verkà 1/4rzungen ebenjener Verbindungen, die, wo noch gà 1/4ltig, unwiederbringlich aus dem Gleichgewicht geraten sind) bei Lewis konsequent wie nie in den Leib des fraktalen Subjekts selbst ein. Next Exit: Peter Jackson. Im Grunde ist Lewis' Slapstick somit aber auch die konsequente Fortschreibung von Buster Keaton: Wo dieser sich noch allein gegen die entfesselten Elementargewalten behaupten musste, um Individuum sein und werden zu können, verschwimmen bei Lewis Subjekt und AuÃenwelt gewissermaÃen ineinander. Keine Bewegung auÃerhalb seiner selbst, die sich nicht unmittelbar in Lewis' gleichermaÃen entfesselte Mimik fortsetzen wà 1/4rde. Immer wieder offenbaren sich hier geheimnisvolle, fast maschinelle Bewegungsabläufe, in deren Mechanik sich Lewis' Körper, der stets ein wenig unkontrollierbar erscheint, einordnet. Diese treten jedoch nicht mehr, wie Chaplin, als Folge einer Maschinisierung des Körpers in den MODERN TIMES und somit als Symptom einer allumfassenden Industrialisierung auf, sondern sind vielmehr als die Fliehkräfte der Welt selbst zu begreifen.
User Review - 8/10 by William WWith all of the American turmoil recently about police brutality, I thought watching this, Jerry Lewis' first solo venture after his misadventures with Dean Martin, would be an interesting experience. It was both touching, showing an older police officer showing compassion and trying to connect with a troubled but promising adolescent and help him out in life, and funny, giving one of the finest comedians of his time more space to strut his stuff. I'm glad I took the time and effort to check his comedies out. Happy 90th, Jerry Lewis! =)
