User ReviewKurt AThe Phil Smoot movie that started it all. Toltecs live forever!
User ReviewMichael JClassic cheeseball horror with all the main ingredients: outright offensive racism, boobs, only one moment of sweet gore, a very long and unprofessional whip fight between a demon that doesn't know how to use one and an old cop who does which isn't fair at all to the demon and finally a total disregard to a woman's right of declining sexual advances brought by male persistence
User ReviewAl MThe Dark Power is about as awful as a film can be: a stupid plot coupled with terrible acting, atrocious direction, and abysmal cinematography create a film that should be hard to watch. However, The Dark Power manages to overcome these massive flaws by being absolutely hilarious. It's not always clear whether The Dark Power considers itself to be a comedy, but it certainly is. At times its commentary on racism and Native Americans seems to be blatantly racist in itself, but the film is too stupid to take seriously. Instead, it merely becomes a complete laugh riot as one idiotic plot point after another occurs in conjunction with the bizarre, brain-dead, and nonsensical comments of the characters. A film ready-made for MST3K, The Dark Power is an excellent film to watch with buddies and a case of beer.
User ReviewTim SYou get 48 minutes of talk (and occasional T&A) and then FINALLY see the monsters. The pacing is horrendous, but I did enjoy the last 30 minutes as it reminded me of movies like Killer Klowns from Outer Space and The Toxic Avenger. So it's sort of like Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things (another movie that takes forever to get going). I can't hate on the movie too much for as cheaply made as it is. I do love this kind of stuff, but the first 50 minutes are so incredibly difficult to sit through. It does deliver some gore, T&A, and some whip-lashing fun, so it tries, but those first 48 minutes are unforgivable.
