DVDLaserDouglas PrattThe film is grand slapstick, and the performances are funnier the more often you see it.
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzIt's hard to believe, but the horror spoof goes under despite this awesome cast.
Movie ChambersPaul ChambersAn all-out horror comedy set in 19th century New England with some of the best names in the business. Besides Price, there's Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre, Basil Rathbone and in a small, but funny, segment, Joe E. Brown.
User ReviewJL SVincent Price at his best as an undertaker who, when business is slow, goes out and drums up a little business by committing murder. Doesn't sound funny, but this is one of the most hilarious movies I've ever seen ... Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, and Basil Rathbone (as the victim who won't stay dead) obviously had a ball making this film and the result is a brilliantly dark comedy.
User ReviewRandy TOne of the first Comedy Horror type movies. Real intertaning and such good humor. Vincent Price is Amazing.
User ReviewAmy RVincent Price, Peter Lorre and Boris Karloff in an unusual dark comedy. Basil Rathbone is a treat as their nemesis. Also giving a standout performance as Cleopatra is Rhubarb the cat!
User ReviewHubert GA wonderfully grim and dark comedy. Horror icons Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, Basil Rathbone, and Peter Lorre prove they can be funny and sinister at the same time.
User ReviewMichael SVincent Price was so mean in this movie I couldn't help but laugh. This movie is silly but not overly dumb and the "horror" element is still very much present. This was refreshing and has a very solid cast.
User ReviewArt SLong before Student Bodies was released in the early 80's there was Comedy of Terrors. It's one of my favorite comedies. It so silly but a lot of fun. It's great to see Vincent, Peter, Boris & Basil making fun of their horror icon image:) Boris steal the show as Vincent's senile father in law. Cleo the cat is a great addition and is very funny as is Vincent's wife Joyce. She sings like a nightingale. LOL! I heard they were going to made another comedy but within a few years after the release Peter, Boris & Basil passed away. Would have loved to have seen another comedy with them.
User ReviewBlais EWho knew the quartet of Horror-Meisters Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, and Basil Rathbone were such splendiferous comedians? Madcap Roger Corman romp scripted by the great Richard Matheson, chronicaling the difficulties an undertaker has in "drumming up" business. The four principles, especially Basil Rathbone, really let loose & leave no holds barred in this zany look at the life of the despicable mortician Trumbull (Price), his bouncy, buxom wife Amaryllis (The delightful & under-rated Joyce Jameson), bewildered assistant Gilley (Peter Lorre), doddering father-in-law Amos (Boris Karloff), & cataleptic arch-nemesis Mr Black (A thoroughly-enjoyable Rathbone, here clearly relishing a rare comic turn-). Wildly funny.
