eFilmCritic.comScott WeinbergSeriously underrated and annoyingly overlooked. Gordon delivers a great film in his very first try.
Slant MagazineJeremiah KippThe Chocolate War is reminiscent of another kind of movie that one wishes could be jump-started again: Angry Young Man films.
eFilmCritic.comRob GonsalvesThe story is a classic about grace under pressure and resisting conformity, and it's a noble first effort from a director who has never sold out.

User ReviewJini .This is possibly the best adaptation I have ever seen. The grainy grainy harshness of of a film school project and the brillian inspiration of Rober Cormier,s novel by the same name make this a masterpiece. I think this film was ahead of it's time if it had come in the wake of the Kevin Smith heyday it would have been a huge cult classic. Well worth the watch because it is not like a lot of stuff out there. Dark, haunting and scary, it is a portrait of how the system can fail you and that bravery and idealism, (in the real world) don't always win the day.
User Review. SI loved this surreal teenage drama, it's deep, and Ilan Mitchell-Smith is really cool in it.
User ReviewDemitri LSo underrated it amazes me. A superb adaptation of one of the greatest young adult novels of the last century.
User ReviewSera CGreat movie. Saw this in the stacks at work and thought my chocoholic friend Amy would like it, turns out it's not Really about the chocolate... Great social commentary. A very real story about being a teenager (and a boy? - can't really say, because I'm not one...) The soundtrack and actors are ones I'm going to look in to. Watch it!
User ReviewVictor JKeith Gordon comes through again and again. The soundtrack still sounds good. The performances? Classic.
