Leave your thoughts about The Brink's Job.
Hollywood ReporterArthur KnightThe Brink's Job comes off as a black comedy with a sour, misplaced sense of humor. Falk also seems misplaced...
Combustible CelluloidJeffrey M. AndersonArguably William Friedkin's funniest film.
User ReviewKnut DA whimsical heist flick with serious undertones from master director William Friedkin. This movie is based on an actual Boston robbery that took place in 1950. It stars Peter Falk, Peter Boyle, Warren Oates and Paul Sorvino. The whole cast is spot on and Warren Oates and Peter Boyle truly shines in this movie. Why this film received so poor reviews is beyond me. It's an extremely enjoyable caper film with great characters and stunning cinematography. This should be considered as an American classic.
User ReviewBen SHighly enjoyable heist picture from "The French Connection" director William Friedkin. "The Brink's Job" features an ensemble cast of 60's and 70s character actors, mainly Peter Falk (fresh off the set of Columbo) , Peter Boyle, Allen Garfield, Paul Sorvino and the great Warren Oates. It's a colourful and character-driven movie, and compared to other William Friedkin movies, this is a pretty lighthearted fare. You won't see much blood or many violent confrontations, but you will see storytelling at it's finest.
User ReviewDominic EThis is a great heist film, starring a great ensemble. Way better than "The Gang that Couldn't Shoot Straight." I suspect that the masks worn by the gang during the big stickup were a source of inspiration for Heath Ledger's Joker makeup. Peter Boyle and Peter Falk are tremendous together and author, actor, and famous little brother Malachy McCourt makes an appearance as money launderer Mutts Murphy. Great film.
User ReviewWilliam SA great old flick....when on TV it will stop a surfer familiar with the movie.
User ReviewChris KGreat film, slapstick comedy + interesting true story, Definitely worth a watch. Perhaps a tad dated.
User ReviewFrédéric LFun heist film (from the director of the Exorcist??) with a fine cast of underrated actors.
User ReviewStuart KAfter the financial disaster of Sorcerer (1977), and before the homosexual controversy of Cruising (1980). Director William Friedkin made a lower-budget, more commercially viable film, based on an amazing true story about a quite amazing heist. But, it's made as a black comedy with a good cast to boot, but it's a change of pace for Friedkin. It begins in Boston in 1938, when rouge Tony Pino (Peter Falk) is sent to jail for robbery, but he gets out 6 years later. He spends the next few years getting by, until he learns of a company in his neighbourhood called Brink's, which is a security transport company that ships money out to big businesses in the region. Tony has a plan, and he gets his gang together including Joe McGinnis (Peter Boyle), Vinnie Costa (Allen Garfield), Specs O'Keefe (Warren Oates) and Jazz Maffie (Paul Sorvino) to pull off an elaborate heist, which happens on the night of January 17, 1950, after that, it caused a media frenzy. It's an enjoyable little film, and quite likeable too, although it does get a little silly in places, it's important to remember that this is all true and it happened, but the cast is very good, Falk especially as the mastermind of the plot. Friedkin should have made more films like this.
