Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC) - 9/10 by Ken HankeKind of Dracula Meets Tennessee Williams.
ESplatter - 7/10 by Steve BiodrowskiThe film features the familiar elements (beautiful color cinematography, lavish sets, solid writing, strong performances), making this a worthy heir to its predecessor.
Alexander On Film - 6/10 by Chris AlexanderFisher directs like a bat out of hell, the movie looks sumptuous...Hammer at its best.
Time Out - 4/10 by Tom MilnePatchy but striking, and directed with Fisher's usual flair.
User Review - 10/10 by John KMy personal favorite among Hammer Studios' myriad number of vampire films, dripping with gothic mood & atmosphere. Interesting in that it was to have originally been a direct sequel to Hammer's earlier "Horror of Dracula", but Christopher Lee declined the role, fearing type-casting. They then changed the role from Count Dracula to "Baron Meinster", and cast a relatively unknown actor, David Peel, as the vamp. He does an outstanding job, infusing the character with energetically-menacing and almost animalistic qualities. Some of England's most-skilled character actors & actresses uplift this production to a previously unseen degree, especially the regal and formidable Martita Hunt as the vampire's doomed Baroness-mother in a multi-dimensionally sinister & sympathetic performance. Freda Jackson also is notable as the Baroness's jackal-like crone of a housemaid. The always reliable Peter Cushing shines here as well in his second outing as the irrepressible Dr. Van Helsing. Truly the apex of the Hammer horror genre.
User Review - 10/10 by Kastehelmi KBrilliantly lush visuals and atmosphere, interesting story and strong cast make this refreshingly old-fashioned gem.
User Review - 10/10 by Giovanni CThe epitome of a vampire movie, a gothic movie, and a good movie in general. A classic. A classic classic. The best of the Hammer Horror Dracula film series, and it doesn't even have Dracula in it. Peter Cushing is amazing. You must watch. Buy some candles, turn off all the lights, let the moonlight in, and watch.
User Review - 10/10 by Todd SDracula's dead, but Van Helsing is still busy wiping out vampirism in Transylvania. This time he's after the Baron Meinster, but he's also got to clean up the baron's contributions to the vampire cult, by destroying those that the baron initiated. Christopher Lee wanted nothing to do with this one, and that's fine by me, because it's even better than Horror Of Dracula, and who's to say that's not the reason? Peter Cushing is back as Van Helsing, and that's all we need. Actually Van Helsing would have probably been a better title, since everyone seems to find the existing title misleading. With a title like Dracula's Brides, all that I expect to see are women vampires created by Dracula who have survived him to wreak havoc in a sequel. It seems that others think the title implies that Dracula himself should make an appearance. He didn't appear in Universal's film, Dracula's Daughter, why should he appear here when his name is used in the same sense? Once again, no James Bernard score, but Van Helsing gets his own theme music this time. Terence Fisher directs, and Jimmy Sangster helped with the script. We've got three fifths of the elements required for a winning Hammer formula, yet it exceeds most of the films that have all five. In case you can't tell, this one is currently my favorite.
User Review - 10/10 by Kimi DIt had some slow moments, and the ending was a bit compressed, but all and all it was an enjoyable vampire movie. (By the way: the title really had nothing to do with the story. Dracula is not in this movie - nor are his brides).
User Review - 10/10 by Deb A2nd installment in Hammer's Dracula franchise with Peter Cushing as Van Helsing but no sign of Lee as Dracula, still i think this is the best Vampire film made by Hammer and has some very creepy looking vampire brides in it too,it's a great gothic sequell and the moment where Van Helsing gets bitten by a Vampire is the biggest Highlight, brilliant sets and effects and acting, the only let down is David Peel as the lead Vampire he isn't at all scary and lacks the presence that Lee brought to the screen,an under rated classic
