Ken Burns meets Spinal Tap in a subversive tour de force relaying the outrageous life stories of four forgotten Civil War heroes: an opium-addicted gay Colonel, an aging Chinese launderer, a nerdy escaped slave, and a one-armed teenage prostitute. Both wickedly satirical and deeply affectionate, The Battle of Pussy Willow Creek tells the "100% true" story of how these oddball outsiders saved the Union from a nefarious foreign plot, how the forces of bigotry expunged their stunning victory from the history books, and - most importantly - how meeting one's ex on the field of battle can be just the thing to re-spark a detoured romance.

VarietyRonnie ScheibWith its convincingly antique-looking artifacts and hilarious “re-creations,” the March 1 release should please audiences searching for an intelligent, satiric spin on historical hindsight.
The New York TimesAndy WebsterBy the time the humor overreaches, escalating into the surreal, you’ve fallen under the movie’s spell. Audacity and invention more than compensate for the deficiencies. Who knows what Ms. Cohen will do next? But it should be interesting.
New York PostFarran Smith NehmeMost of the humor, though, is wan, exemplified by letters like “Dear General Lee: Sounds great! Please proceed with your plan.”
The Hollywood ReporterFrank ScheckA mockumentary obviously inspired by his landmark 1990 series The Civil War, misses the Christopher Guest mark by a mile.
Village VoiceMarsha McCreadieDespite Civil War homages—hazy vistas, silhouetted cannons, and even the famous Ken Burns pan over still photos—the imaginary heroes never spring to life.
indieWireBasil TsiokosAn obvious labor of love, the film successfully comments on gays in the military, racism, xenophobia, and sexism in a sly, entertaining manner throughout.
User ReviewJudy SThis is a wonderful tongue-in-cheek mockumentary. Well written, wonderfully directed and entertaining. Very creative take on the civil war. I highly recommend this movie.
User ReviewArchie BThis is a film that creeps up on you... Is it real? Is it not? Like Thomas Pynchon BoPWC blends historical fact and fiction into a wonderful, funny tapestry. Wonderful period images or recreated reminiscent of Woody Allen's "Zelig." It doesn't whack you over the head -- this is a thinking person's comedy. Sends up PBS, Ken Burns and history. If you hate pretentious historical documentaries you'll love Battle of Pussy Willow Creek.
User ReviewBenjamin MThis movie definitely puts things into perspective on how times have changed and not changed since the civil war, while at the same time being just good ol' entertainment!
