Common Sense MediaCharles CassadyGood-natured Sherlock spoof with some dirty-joke humor.
DVDJournal.comMark Bourne...the daisy-chain of prop gags, slide-whistle humor, and blackout sketches merge sometimes uneasily with the romantic and mystery-thriller components. What glues it together, barely, is the talented cast in fine form....
User ReviewShyam SThis wasn't Gene Wilder's best and is pretty obscure, but this was one of my Dad's all-time favorites and I was raised on it. Wilder, Feldman, DeLuis and Kahn give amazing performances.
User ReviewSimon FMany times this movie is left out of the top lists in the comedy field but for me it's an excellent movie, great production of Gene Wilder where he acted, written and directed!!! Also, another chance to see him along Marty Feldman and Madeline Kahn. With a great cameo of Dom DeLuise. If you haven't watched it yet, please do it!!
User ReviewAlyssa MI find that where it falls flat, for me, are some of the funniest moments on film. Dom DeLuise is so over the top as usual. Well scripted but the direction is off slightly still an enjoyable flick.
User ReviewBrody MAn hilarious spoof (surprising in an American film) concerning the misadventures of the great detective's lesser-known 'smarter' (& smarting) brother, Siggerson S Holmes. The humour is much more in the style of the great British comedies, so don't let the fact that it is American put you off. A stellar cast features Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Leo McKern & Madeline Kahn & a host of other comedy favourites (such as John le Mesurier & Roy Kinnear). This is clever, witty, & often just plain absurd....but it all works extremely well. If you have any sense of fun or appreciation of the ridiculous, I guarantee that you will find yourself belly-laughing within the first 20minutes. Written & directed by Gene Wilder. *****5 out of 5 stars*****
User ReviewAndré DThis is a great directorial debut from Gene Wilder who wrote it after writing Young Frankenstein!
User ReviewMorgan TThis film is fun, wacky, sweet and very off-beat. Kudos to Wilder for choosing to enlist his old partners Kahn and Feldman, providing yet another permanent chapter in their unforgettable and immortal careers!
User ReviewMark Tyou would have to be dead or a tory not to laugh
User ReviewAl PNothing greater than a truly funny movie.
