A hot young phone sex addict and his narcissistic opera diva mom. A dangerously agitated hustler and a half-dozen dangerously agitated hustlers who look just like him. A tittering neurotic who thinks she's Vanessa Redgrave and Vanessa Redgrave herself. Pot brownies, puke jokes, a gay dad, a flying lesbian, Jerry Hall, a dead body and a fetish for Brian DePalma movies! Anchoring the mayhem is Elisabeth Beaumont, an American opera star visiting Paris to perform "Turandot" and dabble in some belated mothering of her 23 year-old son Thomas. Thomas doesn't need mothering; he needs some good hot manhandling. And, in the best DePalma tradition, the quest for sex leads to voyeurism and voyeurism, leads to murder. From there, it's just a short path to therapy. Unfortunately, the psychiatrist that Thomas visits is a little on the dead side herself, and a nutty patient has taken her place.

Dallas Morning NewsAngela ShahWhile the cast of Merci Docteur Rey gives it a good shot, this romp stumbles a bit.
L.A. WeeklyElla TaylorThis is less a coming-out tale than a showcase for late-middle-aged hysterical divas in flowing caftans to yell, scream and ride roughshod over the young homosexuals who are nominally the movie's center.
One Guy's OpinionFrank SwietekAn arch, clumsy effort...not only poorly written but ineptly staged... Mercy!
South Florida Sun-SentinelLaura KellyMerci Docteur Rey, which occasionally works as a passable farce, stoops to the sight gag of vomit.
www.susangranger.comSusan GrangerThere's much ado about very little in this flimsy, fallible Gallic comedy/melodrama which confounds with its complex, voyeuristic incongruity.
Film Journal InternationalDavid NohWhat is all too apparent on the screen is a general pointless ineptitude, particularly dire in circumstances which require both material and handling to be done with the most effervescent of skill.
Boxoffice MagazineKim WilliamsonIn this comedy of murder, there is exactly one laugh, involving a dress and wallpaper, which is one more than there is of a real human moment or emotion.
User ReviewJohn HUnique, fresh black comedy with a terrific performance from Dianne Wiest. Screenplay meanders a bit but is ultimately intelligent and hilarious. Great cameos from Vanessa Redgrave and Jerry Hall.
User ReviewEvelyn MQuirky comedy. Did I say Quirky? "HANDS OFF THE MAYONAISE" Dianne Wiest plays her role well. My favorite character is the one who plays Vanessa Redgrave -- or is she Vanessa Redgrave? This comedy is definitely off the wall.
