Leave your thoughts about Tentacles.
Creative LoafingMatt BrunsonIt's pretty rancid, although it's the perfect party picture to screen in the background as your guests get suitably soused.
User ReviewJohn CTentacles, along with Q: The Winged Serpent, were the first creature features I remember seeing, and so I've always enjoyed watching them. The soundtrack to Tentacles is sort of an instrumental 70's disco type of sorts, appropriate at some points, not so much at others, but still fun and different. With the voice of Gandalf from the animated The Hobbit stuck in my head throughout (John Huston stars in this), watching it again was a nice, fun break from the routine and modern creature movies and it brought back alot of memories. This take on Jaws is about a man eating giant squid, causing trouble along the coast line while the locals try to find out exactly what's causing the deaths. When a boat race starts and all havoc ensues, what they are left with an attempt to get the help of two killer whales to take down the monster, if possible. At some points very suspenseful, at others rather slow, but the movie is fun to watch for those that remember, and so still love, 70's filming and acting. Henry Fonda even has a role in Tentacles, albeit not a very important one.
User ReviewBernard KSort of a kick, easy watching, beast killing people and the like. Fun in a way!
User ReviewJustin BWhat was Henry Fonda doing in this? grabbing a paycheck.
User ReviewLotti KShameful Jaws rip-off but with some artistic flare. Not enough Fonda for me.
User ReviewJohn Joseph Mthis is a movie that really gets killed in the fact that it triede to reach a wider audience by going pg-13, but would have definitely been a classic with some sexuality and more gore. The plot is actually really good, a lot of humour (whether incedental or planned) good music, decent creature effects, it is mostly lacking blood and a higher body count. The bloody octopus attacks a whole regatta...knocks down several ships and kills one? After the first crusty sailor kill I expected better. I love movies that start by introducing several characters to kill them off and this one was no exception. The ending is kind of odd, but cool non-the-less
User ReviewAndrew KTerrible Jaws knock-off with many big name stars slumming it. So hilariously bad it was enjoyable. Highlights include the score which is mainly harpsichord and sounds like 70's porno music, the regatta scene which is laughably anti-climactic, the acting which is sub-par and Bo Hopkins giving a "rise-up and boost your morale" type speech to a couple of killer whales! If you like bad movies this is right up there!
User ReviewVan RA gigantic octopus terrorizes a coastal resort after an underwater construction project forces it out of its natural surroundings. It seems that radio signals jar the sea creature and give it a ravenous appetite for anything human. No, none of the marqee stars--Henry Fonda, Shelley Winters, Bo Hopkins, Claude Akins, or John Huston--wind up being seafood for this predator. TENTACLES has more than its share of moments and director Oliver Hellman plays it straight all the way down the line.
User ReviewAl MBehind every great fortune is a crime A laboratory in a small town is owned by a millionaire and run by an over ambitious scientist. One of the scientist?s experiments on a giant squid goes wrong; the squid escapes, and begins terrorizing the small town. Fortunately, the small town also has an aquarium with trained personnel. The trained personnel first attempts to capture the squid are unsuccessful. They may have to rely on some of the exhibits within the aquarium to save the town?their killer whales. ?We are up to our asses in trouble and he goes swimming.? Ovidio Assonitis, director of Beyond Obsession, Forever Emmanuelle, And When She Was Bad, and Over the Line, delivers Tentacles. The storyline for this movie is interesting and reminded me of a cross between Jaws and Piranha (the original). The acting in this film is better than anticipated and includes John Huston (Moulin Rouge, 1951), Shelley Winters (Pete?s Dragon), and Henry Fonda. ?It?s an animal disturbed by man?s stupidity.? Tentacles was part of the MGM Channel?s dive-in Labor Day marathon. This movie?s plot was fascinating and grabbed my attention. While this movie was interesting and well delivered, the action was too scarce to live up to its potential. The ending scene was awesome and depicts two killer whales eating a squid. Overall, this is worth seeing if you are a fan of the genre but nothing special overall. ?These killer whales may unlock some of the greatest mysteries of the sea.? Grade: C-
User ReviewZane TOvidio G. Assonitisin ohjaama "Tentacles - lonkerot" on italialais-amerikkalaisena yhteistyona syntynyt merellinen kauhuelokuva, jossa vedenalaista tunnelia rakentava yritys rikkoo ahneuksissaan saantoja ja saa pahansisuisen jattilaismustekalan kiukustumaan. Ja sitten alkaa Ocean Beachin rantamilta kadota ihmisia, eivatka edes rannalle jatetyt lastenvaunut ole turvassa. Elokuva onnistuu ensimmaisen kolmen vartin aikana toimimaan yllattavan hyvin ollakseen B-luokan Tappajahai-jaljitelma, mutta sitten se taantuu pahemman kerran ja alkaa aiheuttaa katsojassa etupaassa myotahapeaa. Loppuratkaisu on paitsi nolo, myos tavattoman epauskottava.
