TIME MagazineJay CocksThe Arctic looks like a melted dessert, the Viking village like a low-rent neighborhood in Disneyland, and the Vikings themselves like Hell's Angels on Halloween.
Time OutGeoff AndrewUnimaginative plot, interminable dialogue in 'Old Norse', some pointless love interest, and a particularly repulsive poodle.
User ReviewArjun AFacinating adventure film about vikings and the adventures who discover them.
User ReviewKurt NVery good! I'd love to see it again. I really love adventures like this one, discovering lost worlds.
User ReviewKristofer AGreatest "B" film ever, classic
User ReviewJamie TJust read the plot description - if it doesn't sound like something you would want to watch, then you're no fun at all.
User ReviewDave JI loved this movie. An explorers son is missing in the arctic, so he hires a balloon to travel there, where they find a lost viking settlement
User ReviewKurt BAs a child, this film completely enthralled me...
User ReviewJason JA fantastic adventure about a rich father who has lost his son. The last he knows is that his son joined a whaling ship and talked of traveling north from Greenland to find the "whale's graveyard." The father hires an esteemed archaeologist known for his breadth of knowledge of the arctic and a Fernchie airship (this took place even before zeppelins) to travel far, far north in an attempt to find his lost son. The eskimos are scared to travel to the place the son is said to have ventured because of demons and spirits. The demons and spirits turn out to be Vikings from a settlement 1000 years old who fearcly fight to protect their homeland and way of life. Convinced that the intruders are scouts intent on bringing many more to their volcano and spring-warmed paradise, their immediate execution is ordered. Not much time is actually spent at the wonderfully designed Viking nation as they attempt to escape into icy mountains with a legion of Vikings on their tail. Oh yeah, the shoot Shamu, shoot him and his family dead! Surprised that hadn't been edited out in our more PC and enlightened state of being we as a people have now reached.
User ReviewMatthew CFun action and adventure from Disney, this movie plays out like most 'lost world' films, but is still has plenty to like. David Hartman, of all people, headlines as an archeologist who leads a team into the arctic circle in the late 1800s. Some cool, if stock twists and some pretty good imagery, if not the greatest special effects help. Solid family entertainment, and not too long for its own good.
