User ReviewSydney SHaunting, Sad & Lingering...this film stays with you. I've watched this film three times now. I had never even heard of Dave Schultz or his story before this film. And I knew absolutely nothing about Olympic wrestling. Now I keep watching it over and over trying to come to some kind of understanding as to why this happened. Yes, Du Pont was obviously mentally unstable. Just watching his interviews onscreen made me uncomfortable. I just felt an incredible amount of sadness watching this movie. I was sad for Du Pont because he never truly had a real friend. Until Dave. Dave, and his incredible family treated Du Pont with such kindness and compassion. And then he killed him. Just tragic. There were so many times during the film that I couldn't help crying. The sound effects at the end when Nancy is walking through their old home are just haunting. Listening to the laughter of the kids with their father and watching the home videos left a lump in my throat that I'm still trying to clear. What an amazing man Dave Schultz was. Thank you Jon Greenhalgh for telling his story. There is a lot to be learned about the human spirit from this film. Watch it. But be forewarned. It stays with you.
User ReviewJeff BDave Schultz was to wrestling what Babe Ruth was to Baseball . The very best.
User ReviewCheryl CFantastic documentary - a must see. Chilling.
User ReviewSam AReally connected a lot of the dots, tragic story.
User ReviewBill RThe home video cottage and interviews with Dave Schultz' wife and kids make this the best, most detailed telling of the story previously told in the past couple years in Bennett Miller's feature film "Foxcatcher" and the ESPN doc, "Prince of Pennsylvania." It's the only one of the three that delves into the aftermath of the shooting at all--the standoff with local police, the trail, and the hand-wringing among those on the farm wondering what they might have been able to do differently to help a man they seemed to have genuine affection for as he slipped away into madness.
User ReviewPaul WI was the third wrestler to leave Team Foxcatcher after Mark Schultz, and I was a good friend of Dave's. This film is spot on and a must see.
User ReviewStan DTeam Foxcatcher is a haunting documentary featuring home video footage of world champion/Olympian Dave Schultz's time on Foxcatcher Farms with the troubled John E. du Pont. This feels more of a companion piece to 2014's Foxcatcher starring Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, and Mark Ruffalo as Team Foxcatcher shines the spotlight on Dave's story rather than Mark Schultz's brief time on du Pont's estate. Nevertheless, this is a chilling, well made film on a man's decent into madness and the victim of a very unfortunate, sad situation. Highly recommend this documentary to fans of the Oscar-nominated Foxcatcher.
User ReviewTim MUsing lots of great home footage and some hauntingly beautiful scenes that capture the odd darkness of this wrestling team, it doesn't quite replace the Miller's "Foxcather" but works as a compelling companion piece...or even as a stand-alone experience. As great and creepy as Carell's portrayal of du Pont is, it almost doesn't do justice to how terrifyingly creepy he was. Mark's strange absence from the doc is a bit distracting, but nothing you won't easily overlook.
User ReviewMargarita SA straightforward and well-executed documentary with excellent build up (escalating dread) toward the climatic event. Compelling interviews that are insightful and self-aware. You're left feeling like the entire system is complicit in the tragedy.
