Beautiful, sophisticated women are all over Oscar Grubman. He is sensitive and compassionate, speaks French fluently, is passionate about Voltaire, and thinks the feature that tells the most about a woman is her hands. On the train home from Chauncey Academy for the Thanksgiving weekend, Oscar confides in his best friend that he has plans for this vacation--he will win the heart of his true love. But there is one major problem--Oscar's true love is his stepmother Eve. Oscar is certain that he could be a better mate to Eve than his work-obsessed father. He fails to win Eve's heart and is consequently dejected. Oscar's path to his true love is further crossed by Diane, Eve's best friend who, one night while wearing Eve's borrowed perfumed scarf, offers him temporary comfort in an unconventional tryst. For Diane, Oscar fills a void in her life. For Oscar, Diane is somewhat of a distraction, as his continued pursuit of Eve leads to an unexpected resolution.
Leave your thoughts about Tadpole.
Washington PostDesson ThomsonDoesn't need the passage of time to become a classic. It's one already.
Washington PostAnn HornadayIt's a funny, fearless, poignant, spectacular performance. Come to think of it, those words could well apply to the entirety of Tadpole.
New York PostLou LumenickShort and sweet, small and smart, Tadpole is the oasis in the desert of dopey summer blockbusters - an uproarious, sophisticated coming-of-age comedy so flawlessly written, acted and directed it seems practically miraculous.
Zap2it.comVanessa SibbaldBased on a devilishly witty script by Heather McGowan and Niels Mueller, the film gets great laughs, but never at the expense of its characters
Milwaukee Journal SentinelDuane DudekIt lacks the lushly romantic sensibility that made Woody Allen's similarly themed (and unfortunately prophetic) Manhattan seem plausible.
USA TodayClaudia PuigAn irreverent and witty comedy in which the events aren't predictable but are well paced.
VarietyTodd McCarthyA smart sex comedy that successfully swims upstream to spawn and score.
Rolling StonePeter TraversTadpole may be small, but it's something special -- a cheeky comedy knockout.
Reeling ReviewsRobin CliffordThe shoddy techs hurt and will keep people away, but if you can live with the bad craftwork I think you'll enjoy "Tadpole"
Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)Ken HankeTadpole has more than its share of problems, true, but they are problems that can be borne.
