Leave your thoughts about Swoon.
Independent (UK)Anthony LaneSwoon is too pleased with its own amoral pose; but Kalin has the same alarming assurance as his heroes, whose story has, if anything, grown in its power to shock.
Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)Ken HankeFaux artsy take on the Leopold-Loeb case.
EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyAs a dark, moody and stylized (the film is shot in b/w) poem of love and madness Swoon is effective, but as social polemic on contemporary gay issues, it's strained; even so, it's a striking feature debut.
User ReviewCodie EMy third favorite movie of all time. I absolutely adore this one. I've always been obsessed with the Leopold-Loeb case. This movie just romances it, and I am haunted. "Now I know you, your doglike nature that adores being kicked. Now I know you, and you shall come to know me."
User ReviewChris SI am glad that this isn't as surreal as people say it is. This is a film that judges Leopold and Loeb not because of their sexuality and identity but because of their immoral choices. It doesn't see their acts of homosexuality as a perversion but it sees them as parts of their identities. Not as artistic as but more interesting than the film Poison, this is a great and important part of the New Queer Cinema.
User ReviewSamantha CI totally LOOOOOOOOOVVEEEEEEE this movie. It first introduced me to the ultra super mega sexxxy Craig Chester:p This movie is so cool it could be president!
User ReviewMichael NA beautiful movie about a twisted relationship and one of my all time favourites. Sadly I haven't been able to see any of Tom Kalin's later films...
User ReviewPrivate UResourceful, sensitive and fascinating portrait of Leopold and Loeb.
User ReviewNina OLet's just get this out there-it's an artsy film. Not super artsy like Van Sant's "Elephant" but the infulence of a director who was once a art major is there. That being said, this film is a classic in it's own right (which makes it a shame more people don't know about it) and ushered in-along with films like Poison, Edward II and The Living End- what is now called "New Queer Cinema". The lead actors, Craig and Daniel, were amazing and you actually believed they were in love plus it's amazing to see what can be done with so little. Kudos to the DP. All and all Kalin's film is a finely crafted journey of passion and crime and what seperates the two. This is our Bonnie and Clyde.
User ReviewEvan KBrilliant and disturbing interpretation of Leopold & Loeb. Great cinematography and honest performances from the cast. The "artsy" elements add a beautiful feeling of insanity.
