Leave your thoughts about Sweet Movie.
Orlando WeeklyJohn ThomasonI'm not convinced of this sometimes dull and inarguably self-indulgent piece of politicarotica's masterpiecitude.
ColeSmithey.comCole Smithey[VIDEO ESSAY] To this day, "Sweet Movie" remains a powerfully defiant film deeply rooted in anti-authoritarian motives.
Chicago Sun-TimesRoger EbertI didn't hate it, although it affected me in bewildering and sometimes unpleasant ways. I didn't find it a success, but I found it an audacious attempt, and it's filled with images impossible to forget.
Not Coming to a Theater Near YouRumsey TaylorSweet Movie certainly has varied political aims, but the message is hindered by graphic practices and sex.
New York TimesVincent CanbyThe over-all work remains a courageous example of a personal kind of film making that, to me, leads nowhere.
VarietyVariety StaffNeither hard nor softcore. Yugoslav filmmaker Dusan Makavejev's first pic in the West, is provocative but also arbitrary.
User ReviewBjorn OThe music composed by Manos Hatzidakis is enaugh to make it a masterpiece for me.
User ReviewIlias KSuch a luck of humor...among the above spectators...It was a delightfull movie from a world that does no longer exists. Our polically correct consciousness can no longer be worried by such films. The sugar-guy was great whithout mentioning Hadjidakis music which is a chef d'oeuvre !
User ReviewNeil KWhen I first saw this film at the cement box theatre (University of Queensland) in 1987, it was very much a banned, subversive substance. It was a mind-bending experience and one best not discussed over lunch with the mates. The Makavejev agenda should be taken up by more creatives.
User ReviewMartin OAnother mindfuck. Similar in surreal fashion as Jodorowsky's output, but more political in tone. Somehow it has a bit of timeless quality to it as well. Recommended mostly because you never know where it's going to go next...
