Movie Reviews

Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC) - 10/10 by Ken HankeGood, but not entirely satisfactory Hitchcock opus.
Chicago Reader - 9/10 by Dave KehrEveryone concedes that this 1941 Hitchcock film is a failure, yet it displays so much artistic seriousness that I find its failure utterly mysterious—especially since the often criticized ending (imposed on Hitchcock by the studio) makes perfect sense to me.
Ozus' World Movie Reviews - 9/10 by Dennis SchwartzThe Hollywood-style happy ending was imposed on Hitchcock by the studio.
Combustible Celluloid - 8/10 by Jeffrey M. AndersonThe director does some wonderful things with the picture up until the ludicrous ending. Still you can't help feeling a vague disappointment with the whole enterprise.
Movie Metropolis - 7/10 by John J. Puccio...a middle-tier Hitchcock product, not really as suspenseful as it should be and never as romantic or humorous as it could be.
The New York Times - 7/10 by Bosley CrowtherOne must remark that the ending is not up to Mr. Hitchcock's usual style, and the general atmosphere of the picture is far less genuine than he previously has wrought. But still he has managed to bring through a tense and exciting tale, a psychological thriller which is packed with lively suspense and a picture that entertains you from beginning to—well, almost the end.
Apollo Guide - 6/10 by Brian WebsterThe beauty of it is that it starts off light and charming, and darkens so gradually you won't even notice it shift from light romance into a psychological thriller.
Variety - 6/10 by Variety StaffAlfred Hitchcock's trademarked cinematic development of suspenseful drama, through mental emotions of the story principals, is vividly displayed in Suspicion.
Patrick Nabarro - 6/10 by PJ NabarroArguably the film's most interesting sidenote is the sense that Hitchcock is sneaking in something of a sly satire of provincial English mores and snobbery.
User Review - 10/10 by Terri HGrant's first film with Alfred Hitchcock. Probably the best man for the role and Hitchcock was very aware of this. This film is a great example of the genius of the two together. I should mention Joan Fontaine as his leading lady, another great complement and match for Grant.
