AV ClubMike D'AngeloExpect more resistance than usual to the implication that it's a classic ripe for the canon. Changing times do evolve past some things.
EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyThis charming French film about the friendhsip between a German soldier and a French girl was nominated for the 1962 Foreign Language Oscar.
Radio TimesDavid ParkinsonSerge Bourguignon won the Oscar for best foreign language film with this self-promoting, arty affair, which countered the stylistic departures of the nouvelle vague by returning to French cinema's much-derided poetic tradition.
User ReviewGeneroso FSuch a clear and beatifully simple plot which is lacking in the contemporary cinema. Two castaways and one memory - of a world in lake circles. Remarkable. Just a shame the young actress stopped acting - she has a great talent.
User ReviewShawn MWrong in so many ways, but so beautiful. Sniff.
User ReviewCatherine RVery touching movie. I saw it 20 years ago and I haven't stopped thinking about it. I guess the psychically damaged character struck a chord.
User ReviewByron BA very well made film about a man (Hardy Kruger) who is having trouble adapting to normal life after he accidentally killed a child in a routine bombing mission during the war. He befriends a 12 year old girl whose family has abandoned her. Beautiful photography, especially a particular scene in the forest when they're looking at the water. The young girl and Kruger are perfect together, they never overdo it. A film hard to forget.
User ReviewDavid LAbsolute sensitivity... You wish it never ends...
User ReviewKyoko Kbeautiful friendship between a man and a girl. and very sad.
User ReviewDarryl Chere is one of the most magnificent character studies made. kruger and gozzi are radiant! but particularly gozzi. she was but a child when she made this film. her naturalness and realness in some highly complicated scenes deserves notice in the light of some recent so-called phenomenons.
