Washington Post - 8/10 by Paul Attanasio"Sugar Cane Alley" has a loose, easy feel, the anecdotal raggedness of remembrance.
User Review - 10/10 by melvyn hA top 10 movie. I have seen this movie in its original language french/creole. This motion picture is historical, political, tear jerking, heart warming movis/documentary. This picutre illustrates the cultural gap between the F.W.I and the W.I. Through the eyes of a young boy, this movie explains the cultural crisis of a modern French colony. If you were captured by The Colourr Purple, then you will never forget this movie. Tiembe raide
User Review - 10/10 by Kyoko MThis is a gem piece that should be known to more people. An autobiographical account of an intelligent boy growing up in sugar cane alley (or black shack alley), protected by a brave grandmother and a wise, old story teller.
User Review - 10/10 by Private UThis film confirms the writings of Aime Cesaire and Franz Fanon. A true testament.
User Review - 10/10 by TTT C(****): Thumbs Up Wonderfully directed, acted and written. Worth seeking out if you can actually find a copy since the DVD is quite rare now.
User Review - 8/10 by Aaron NA well made story about a bright boy living within the population of sugar cane workers. The acting from the boy is very good and he carries the movie. The other cast members, in particularly the old man, also give good performances. A good movie that is together sad and uplifting.
User Review - 8/10 by Eunice MGreat commentary on society on colonial Martinique. The use of Amber filter instead of blue helps see the black characters real and beautiful. Euzhan Palcy's direction is excellent!
User Review - 8/10 by Gordon BInteresting classic movie. How it used to be back in the day.
User Review - 8/10 by Berneta HBeautiful, heartbreaking, and utterly inspiring.
