User ReviewReno RThis movie was nitty and gritty and had some really hard-hitting stuff about the Triad underworld. A lot of people despise movies like this, claiming that it makes the Triad lifestyle look glamorous when it's anything but that. The story follows young hot-head Tiger and his friend Long as they attempt to make a name for themselves but run afoul of a rival Triad gang run by the obnoxious and psychotic Short-Sighted. After joining another group lead by Chuen Wong, Long and Tiger finally begin their ascension...during the course of the movie, Tiger must try and reconcile with his girlfriend Yee who he broke up with after she revealed her pregnancy to him and is now in the arms of a Triad rival named Beast. Long has problems of his own as he must help Shan, a conniving, troublesome, yet very lovely woman after she falls into a gambling debt with some very dangerous people. Shan owes some guys money and while she has sworn to pay off what she owes to them, they'd rather she work off the debt lying on her back in one of their brothels. As things heat up, Long and Tiger finds their situations intertwining with each other which puts them and the women they love in the cross-hairs of an unstoppable war of vengeance that may just claim the lives of everyone involved. This movie takes a while to get into, but if you give it time, you'll see how truly hardcore it is.
User ReviewMattias EMore a poor man's Young And Dangerous than social cinema perhaps, but some of the street brawls here look, if not realistic, then at least pretty rough. Both story and acting have that charming old school light opera feel, and the movie also features two star performers in young Louis Koo and Teresa Mak. And, mind you, Elvis Tsui in dreads.
User ReviewPaul CAn ok story line. Had a nice meaning to it. But overall, could of been edited and done a lot better.
