Spirituality and PracticeFrederic and Mary Ann BrussatThis amusing and entertaining French film is a valentine to love and the emotions it arouses.
The SpectatorPenelope HoustonThe film wears its charm on its sleeve, which is probably as good a place as any to wear it: tender, hilarious, gracefully reticent.
Q Network Film DeskJames KendrickDespite some of the broadness of the comedy (one of the funniest scenes being Antoine's clearly inept attempt to tail a woman on the street), the film is tempered throughout by a series of lessons Antoine learns about the nature of the adult world.
New York TimesVincent CanbyA movie so full of love that to define it may make it sound like a religious experience, which, of course, it is -- but in a wonderfully unorthodox, cockeyed way.
Austin ChronicleMarjorie BaumgartenSome regard the film as Truffaut's finest work.
Senses of CinemaMike RobinsAs with all of Truffaut's great films, Baisers volés features an odd collection of minor characters and playful cinematic asides that present a complex view of the world.
Chicago ReaderDave KehrOne of Truffaut's best, lyrical and resonant in a way the later films in the cycle would not be.
VarietyVariety StaffThe slice-of-life pic also has neat slices of observation, tasteful presentation and easeful acting that avoid banality.

User ReviewDarryl JI'm kinda biased on this one but I guess we all kinda are when it comes to our favorite movies. The 400 blows is in my top 10 films of all time so it was inevitable that I would love this too. Antoine Doinel is one of my favorite characters ever. His journey through life is so entertaining. Truffaut is the real star here though. The way he directs is amazing. Also, the way he infuses all these new likable characters into Doinels life is awesome as well.
