Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzSlavishly imitative of all those B-film noir clichés.
The New York TimesVincent CanbyA velvety-smooth looking romantic mystery melodrama that has far less to do with life than with other movies. It's clever but chilly in the way of something with a mechanical heart.
Christian Science MonitorDavid SterrittBenton's movie is eventually suffocated, perhaps by the gloss of the Manhattan auction world in which it is set. The plotting becomes rushed and implausible, while Streep falls into the breathless clichés of screen neuroses.
The New YorkerPauline KaelAlthough Benton's plentiful homages to Alfred Hitchcock are well handled, the major problem with this talky picture is that there's plenty of suspense but not enough mystery.
Spirituality and PracticeFrederic and Mary Ann BrussatStill of the Night is a sophisticated murder mystery drama.
User ReviewMeg MPerfect little thriller, with some very eerie moments.
User ReviewPrivate Uhm, I go for these psycho ones - this one got me... shiver!
User ReviewFrank MVery good. Might be old, but very good. I was actually a bit scared at the end - couldn't even walk home alone. Impressive for a movie made in the early 80's!
User ReviewGreg RVery intersting one-off film for all involved. The material isn't all that great but it's the performances and pacing that make this movie a winner. Streep has an awesome monologue near the end that only goes to show you how good she is. Some good goose-bump moments and a VERY creepy final 5 minutes.
User ReviewAnna SI like the actors in this movie and I love the suspense. It is worth watching and the ending is marvelous.
