The SpectatorVirginia GrahamThe implausibility of the story is successfully screened by the dialogue which is refreshingly natural, and there are many delightful touches which the producer, Mr. Buddy Rogers, exploits to advantage.

User ReviewBrad HOne of the biggest characteristics of film noir is the trademark black-and-white lighting which many have attributed to the German Expressionism influence that was caused by the influx of Jewish film makers who arrived in Hollywood after leaving a Hitler-run Germany. "Sleep, My Love" is a good example of this as director, Douglas Sirk, was one of most famous Jewish emigres. The lighting in this is so profound to watch that it almost becomes a character in the film itself, which is a tightly-wound, psychological crime drama. Overall, a fantastic part of the noir cannon and highly recommended for anyone interested in the old classics.
User ReviewMara BI was literally sitting on the edge of my seat watching this suspenseful thriller. I'm glad I discovered this classic noir film. One question though: What in the world did Don Ameche's character see in Hazel Brooks -- beautiful, but a real be-yotch!
User ReviewAj VBefore his 50's Technicolor women's weepers, Douglas Sirk was a deft hand at norish melodrama, and here he has a good cast, with Claudette Colbert psychologically hypnotized by caddish husband Don Ameche to slowly driver her crazy. "Citizen Kane's" George Coulouris is especially effective as the meek co-conspirator to Ameche.
User Reviewroger tWell made wife-in-distress thriller, creatively directed by douglas sirk but feels like 'gaslight' but set in contemporary (well 1948 that is) times.
User ReviewPatrick MGreat acting and cool film noir cinematography.
