Movie Reviews

Los Angeles Times - 2/10 by Martin TsaiShark Lake lacks bite. Its audience doesn't even get to revel in blood and guts; the whole thing seems like it was edited for broadcast.
User Review - 8/10 by Paul LFun Friday-night flick, a la Snakes on a Plane. Love Dolph Lundgren! Eternal badass.
User Review - 8/10 by Jeff NNot bad for a low budget Dolph lundgren thriller
User Review - 6/10 by Eric VFor all that it was (low budget/cheesy) it was fun to watch despite numerous flaws and bad FX.
User Review - 6/10 by Dave BDespite being a silly genre the story is compelling, well shot, and the cast does a decent job. The The problems with the film are very obviously budgetary. All in all a fun flick to watch with some selachophobic friends.
User Review - 4/10 by Dustin DShark Lake is basically a crappy version of Jaws. It is pretty easy to match up the characters with the Jaws counterparts--a shark expert even turns up out of the blue. There is a comment on the scientist's small boat, which may or may not have been a nod to the "We're gonna need a bigger boat" line from Jaws. The writing is laughably bad, nothing the characters do makes much sense (the sheriffs think the man who was killed in the water was mauled by a bear, a deputy adopts the daughter of a man she shot, gets upset when he legally turns up, the mob expects delivery of the shark they paid Dolph Lundgren to get even after he spent five years in prison for smuggling exotic animals, Dolph Lundgren kills a deputy toward the end, is never questioned, the sharks are mindless killing machines and behave nothing like sharks). The CGI is crappy. It gets a pass on a lot of these things for the overall sincerity of the film. It came off as amateurish, but an honest attempt to make a shark movie.
User Review - 3/10 by TheQuietGamerIt's a B-shark movie. We get the expected bad acting, poor writing, and bad special effects. Unfortunately what the movie fails to deliver on is the fun these kind of movies can often bring in a guilty pleasure sort of way. As a result what we get is just dull. With the exception of an over-the-top, British reality TV star and a chick getting part of her leg bitten off, "Shark Lake" is sadly devoid of any sense of fun that can come from the Syfy original movie ilk this one seems to be cut from the same cloth of. Instead it tries to go for the take itself serious root. A bad move given it's predictable drama elements and bad actors. We don't care about these characters or what's going on in their lives. We're just here to see sharks eat people. Unfortunately the movie doesn't really deliver on that either. Most of the shark v human action is pushed to the final third of the movie. The majority of the movie is about supporting it's human conflicts, which are stupid and generic. When the sharks do finally get around to killing fools, the bad CGI and tame deaths suck the fun out of even that element. The most fun comes from watching Dolph Lundgren awkwardly wrestle with the water and a rubber shark torso. It's fun for the wrong reasons. It's a B-movie devoid of B-movie fun. It's dumb, boring, and can't even deliver any exciting kills. Rather tame, completely pointless, and totally not worth watching. Seriously, just don't waste your time. 3.
