User ReviewAndrew KSurprisingly good plot and funny dialogue. The protagonist is obnoxiously funny, and at times a womanizer on the outside, but on the inside he's vulnerable and still emotionally affected by loss of his mother at childhood. Good character development throughout the movie complimented by great acting from Leung, Panettiere, and to an extent, Hu. The script work was started by director Ren when he was 18(!!), yet the portrayal of the inter personal relationships between Liam and the beautiful women and his father and his friend, is quite deep, and touching at times. The whole cultural identity aspect of the movie adds an extra and significant touch when you can relate to the character personally (if you're Asian American).
User ReviewJosh Cgenre is hard to describe. sort of a romantic dramedy, in a way, but much more than that. amazing movie with the perfect ending (and looking at the deleted scenes, it couldve been TERRIBLE, but the scenes they used were perfect). all about finding yourself in your ethnicity and everything. the small cast is great. Ken Leung and Hayden Panettiere have many amazing scenes. awesome
User ReviewDavid Wsome of it was kinda silly/dumb- but i thought it was kinda funny/cute; however, i AM biased in the analysis of this because all of those things could happen to me- being chinese after all; but i agreed with the theme- they present it in a theoretical way but it explicitly states a clear message: if you're a chinaman that was raised in the us n' a, then stick with the love that you find in the us n' a; don't fall for the millions of really hot chinese girls in china; i was also surprised that ken leung has an american accent b/c he had a chinese one in rush hour; this movie's also kinda cool because hayden panettiere = really hot; so is kelly hu; and finally- ken = a pretty awesome guy
User ReviewKevin ZI was surprised to see it in BB. I wanted to see the extras after having seen the premiere at the SFIAAFF in early 2007. Is it ok for me to say it's a "cute" film? :D
User ReviewSargunan IWhat's amazing here is that's actually an hollywood production ! A splendid movie ! wow i can't wait for a new David Ren's movie
User ReviewSteven KGreat Movie! Loved it! Got some great lines in it.. Laughed my head off when he said "Don't call me Liam, Thats my slave name" Just Ace!
User ReviewJay SPoignant and genuine. Not for everyone, though -- a certain depth of perception is a pre-requisite. Race really has nothing to do with it, if you asked me.
User ReviewSean WThis movie is amazing.....reminds me a lot of myself...except im korean
User ReviewAlbert HNot many are like Liam, Lucky. Wow whoever puts two attractive actresses, wait three, is reading my mind. Now how bout a career in acting for me?
User ReviewAlex PIs this film really written by an Asian American? Wow, can't relate at all.
