Movie Reviews

The Dissolve - 7/10 by Nathan RabinFor such a short movie packed with so much incident, Shack Out On 101 devotes an awful lot of its time to folks simply hanging out and shooting the shit, and it's richer for it.
Ozus' World Movie Reviews - 7/10 by Dennis SchwartzA snappy entry into those Red Scare movies from the Cold War paranoid period of the 1950s in America.
User Review - 8/10 by mike pHeres a really wacked out film about a diner thats a front for communist spies. A very young Lee Marvin plays a cook named Slob! And hes every bit of his name. There are random moments of total halarity like when MArvin and Keenan Wynn are lifting weights in the diner, or when Wynn is wearing a scuba suit while holding a spear gun acting like hes on the bottom of the ocean. This film is insane, sleazy And highly recomended! TCM started to play it recently...so check it out!!
User Review - 8/10 by Brad G"You are my heart, but I'd cut you out if you were a traitor!" An exceptional but forgotten gem of Cold War cinema. Terry Moore is a proud American waitress fending herself from the affection of Lee Marvin's mean bastard Slob as well as Keenan Wynn's desperate sadsack diner owner. When she catches wind that her scientist boyfriend (the painfully dull Frank Lovejoy - come on Terry, get with the Wynn!) might be trading secrets with the red, the tiny food shack on the side of the road becomes the final battleground for American Liberty. Never has a short order cook been as creepy or as demented as Lee Marvin; this bear in human form ranks right up there with his Vince Stone Big Heat heavy as one of his finest villain roles. Edward & Mildred Dein deliver a crackerjack screenplay with witty, biting repartee between all the film's combatants. I'm honestly shocked I had never heard of this film before, but I'm thankful that Olive Films had the brains to finally bring Shack on 101 to blu ray. Certainly one of the best films I discovered this year. VF.
User Review - 6/10 by The Next StarfighterThis movie confuses me. Somtimes it plays off as serious, and others it tries to be a comdey, then a romantic film. Lee Marvin is great as a cook named Slob. This film probably made more sense when it came out. As far as I know this title isn't available on DVD, and is kind of rare.
User Review - 6/10 by Kevin M. WTrimmed with a plot about spies that seems incidental (if not entirely disposable) while filled with plenty of incidental conversation, The Shack wins admiration for it's performances and theater-like presence. It doesn't always make sense ... but that was the 50's for you.
User Review - 6/10 by Mike MSnappy, hip dialogue (sexy lead female is referred to throughout as "the tah-mehta") and a top-flight old Hollywood cast make this rarity a real treat - if you can find it. Lee Marvin and the enticing Terry Moore shine. The Commies are coming - even to the Shack Out on 101. Sadly, they don't make'em like this anymore. First film for Seinfeld's "Uncle Leo."
User Review - 6/10 by Michael TTerry Moore vs. the Commies. . .campy fun.
