In 2006, an international expedition team of three men - Charlie Engle (USA), Ray Zahab (Canada) and Kevin Lin (Taiwan) undertook a quest that no human being has ever fulfilled. They ran across the Sahara Desert. Each runner brought his own unique story and motivations, but all unite around a love for Africa and a profound desire to prove that the impossible is possible. The film is an up-close, character-driven documentary that delves deep into the culture of the Sahara through the eyes of three individuals undergoing a life-altering experience. Along with the runners, we cross six countries: Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Libya and Egypt. Through the eyes of our runners, we come to understand the realities of Africa - the beauty and the tragedy inherent in everyday life. This reality is underscored by the recurring theme of water - a daily necessity for our runners and a daily struggle for many of the people they encounter. The cast encountered many locals who spend two and half hours per day, every day, finding and cleaning their water for that day. Sprawling over 3.5 million square miles, the Sahara is a mystical land, enchanting for its extreme beauty and its complex culture. At the same time, it may well be the most unforgiving place on earth -- the daytime heat and the freezing temperatures at night can suck the life from a body in an instant. The team accomplished running for 111 days and over 4800 miles. This is the story of what happened along the way.

User ReviewFred CMade me feel like I could go out there and run the distance myself. The most inspirational film I've watched yet
User ReviewErin KAmazing film. Beautifully shot and scored. Their goal is to run across six African countries, anticipating two marathons per day, for eighty days ... without a day off. Charlie Engle from the United States, Kevin Lin from Taiwan, and Ray Zahab from Canada, have run together in marathons before. But this time is different. This isn't a race. It's a grueling test of will and a chance to accomplish something that no known person has ever achieved.
User ReviewRandy Kamazing movie/documentary! must see movie!
User ReviewSarah BThis film was great! Watching the runners overcome the hardships they experienced was really inspiring, and their spirit and determination was very clear throughout the film. The scenery was beautiful, and the film gives you a chance to see a number of different landscapes in Africa. The music in the film is also great, and it made me want to learn more about these kinds of tests of endurance and what it takes to be able to finish them. I would definitely recommend this film!
User ReviewSean LAn interesting documentry movie I watched on the plane about three guys who run across the Sahara from Senegal to Egypt. Great scenery , human emotion and showing the struggles and journey of an incredible challenge.

User ReviewDaniel SOne of the best documentations that I've seen about people setting out to do something that they love to do. The thought of even setting foot into the Sahara makes me want to pass out, the fact that they did it was amazing.
User ReviewDerrick DNarrated and produced by Jason Bourne aka The Talented Mr. Ripley aka Matt Damon, the story of three runners who decided on a whim to run across the Sahara desert is incredible, if not only for the sheer spectacle of watching these guys endure the highs and lows of the journey. If you're a runner, you'll probably love this movie and feel an almost kindred bond to these guys. If you're not a runner, you'll still enjoy watching these guys slowly climb the proverbial mountain as they attempt to reach their goal. Great movie.
User ReviewDavid HVery interesting documentary which calls attention to the lack of clean drinking water in Africa.
User ReviewScott AYou got to see this movie these guys ran for 111 days that is equal to 170 marathons in a row
