Spirituality and PracticeFrederic and Mary Ann BrussatWild and zany film that mixes comedy with the magic realism of Latin American novels.
User ReviewSchmiddy MThis movie is beautiful - and so much funnier with a glass or two of bone dry white - put me off sausages for life!!!!! but I really wish Alex was my guardian angel - I wouldn't've taken too much advantage of him -honest!!!!
User ReviewPrivate UThis film haunted my world in a beautiful, esthetic, enchanting way...REALLY LOVED IT
User ReviewDonna RI fell in love with this movie when I first saw it. For some reason it spoke to me and I have been searching for it high and low ever since.
User ReviewTamsin RQuirky, surreal and an unusual hollywood movie
User ReviewBillie WLittle known Russell Crowe movie heavy on magic realism.
User ReviewFrances HPleasant character-driven film with a whimsical, magical element to it that compliments the romance.
User Reviewmeg rThis movie about magicians predates THE PRESTIGE and THE ILLUSIONIST by quite a chunk of time-- heck, I'd almost forgotten Russell Crowe was in it, mostly because at that time the world and I didn't know who he was. To think that Bridget Fonda was the real celebrity back then! Still, not bad-- really retro and charming. Give it a try, why not?
User ReviewDean MI really enjoyed this film when I saw it way back when. I remember thinking, who is this Russell Crowe guy and why isn't he a huge movie star? Quirky story, nice period piece, bit of a road movie, ta' boot. Did it have a talking dog in it? Yes, I think it did!
User ReviewTyler DAn interesting film that seems to be striving for the kind of magical realism of authors like Garcia Marquez and realized successfully in "Like Water for Chocolate" but it misses a bit here as it trys to blend with satire and film noir. An enjoyable film but it suffers, I think, from trying a bit too hard to be too many things.
