Full Plot Details

In Paris, two workers find a hidden chamber while digging the underground of the Saint Jean André Church. They collect the valuable objects in the spot but they are attacked by a creature. Meanwhile, the discredited Professor Jack Randall, who wrote a book about Gargoyles rejected by the experts, is encouraged by his friend Carol Beckham to peek the place out. They sneak in the site during the night and while Carol is collecting some artifacts, Jack is recording with his camera. Out of the blue, Jack sees a winged monster coming towards him and he flees from the location with Carol, but breaks his camera. They go to a bar and a huge stone falls over his car. Jack takes a cab to his boarding house and Carol is attacked and beheaded by a Gargoyle at her apartment. On the next morning, Jack identifies Carol's body and becomes the prime suspect of Inspector Gibert of several murders. Jack decides to seek out the reporter of a sensationalist newspaper, Nicole Ricard, and gives his tape to her cameraman Walsh. When Walsh recovers the badly shaped footage, he shows Nicole and they realize that Jack is not crazy and he had seen a Gargoyle indeed in the underground of the church. They decide to return to the church to investigate.

User Review - 10/10 by Gerard DThe cover of this movie depicts a Gargoyle squatting over a dead hooker, therefore I give this movie top marks.
User Review - 8/10 by Marito RI am watching it now and I like it so far.
User Review - 6/10 by Nick AThe ratings for this one seem to be fairly low, but there's no need for that. It's a movie that delivers its budget, and I have seen a lot worse. The story (regardless of all the overacting) is not too farfetched, the camerawork is good, the pace is consistent. It will go by unnoticed, but it's watchable.
User Review - 4/10 by Patrick CYeah...ok. Low budget horror film with a very lame premise. That being said, it isn't painful. It isn't good either though. Not bad enough to be funny or good, but not bad enough to be horrible. The good news: nice shots of Paris and passable acting. The bad news: plot, plot, effects, plot, and ...the whole premise. This money could have been better spent on zombies. Lots and lots of zombies.
User Review - 4/10 by Christopher KDefinitely not one of the better horrors I've seen, but the plot was better than some out there, and Eric Balfour played his part rather well.
User Review - 4/10 by Wes SI love Eric Balfour, but this movie was hopeless. Bad filming, bad CGI, and the plot could've been better. Did have a good line, 'It was an egg! As in a baby monster!'
User Review - 4/10 by Lanky Man PI can't decide i this is very stupid or decent due to it's originality.
User Review - 4/10 by Krillin CRise of the Gargoyles centers around American professor Eric Balfour (Hell Ride, Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake) in Paris who meets up with old friend Carol (Soap opera star Tanya Clarke) who visit the underground of an old Church to be demolished to look at old Gargoyle sculptures. Unbeknownst to them, an actual Gargoyle has been realized and when Carol foolishly takes some of its eggs, the beast sets out into Paris to retrieve the eggs and kill a couple of people along the way, including Carol. Now the number 1 suspect in her death, Balfour must prove his innocence by teaming up with a couple of tabloid reports and a know-it-all priest (well established character actor Nick Mancuso who I will always know as the killer from the original Black Christmas) to stop the creature before it keeps killing people off. Overall, the film has its moments, but for the most part, it's a drag. When it's not being boring, the film basically teases viewers with very minimal creature shots (for the better probably, the CG is terrible) and offscreen kills (another major drag). To top things off, the film builds and builds and builds, then seems to forget that it needs to end, so it concludes abruptly and awkwardly. In the end, Rise of the Gargoyles had the potential to deliver cheap Sci-Fi channel thrills, but wounded up being a major disappointment.
User Review - 4/10 by Jerry CProbably the best thing I could say about this film is that it isn't horrible. Eric Balfour plays a professor who stumbles across a gargoyle and her nest. The rest of the film is your standard cat and mouse fare. While I can't/won't jump for joy over the film, it did keep my interest and anyone who is bored with nothing to watch could check this out.
User Review - 2/10 by Jeremy SJust sad and hopeless. I'm not a fan of anything really Balfour is in as well. As far as a B movie this one really is a reach and choke job as the story seemed thrown together with the idea of gargoyles. Something to watch when nothing is on and making a drink come out your nose in laughter. Grade: D- F
