Movie Reviews

Suite101.com - 10/10 by Nick RogersA witty, whip-smart and wise classic. It checks crowd-pleasing boxes of college-comedy tropes while boasting a cheerful view that optimism in education is not a sucker's bet but one to place over and over to keep things interesting ... and weird.
Washington Post - 10/10 by Paul AttanasioCoolidge has gotten onto something here, and the pity is that the story she's stuck with never gets her any deeper into it.
The Globe and Mail (Toronto) - 10/10 by Salem AlatonMartha Coolidge's bright, whimsical Real Genius can credit part of its substantial and richly deserved cult following to the fact that nothing has changed: Raunchy, lowbrow teen comedies are forever in vogue, and SDI is still an impossible, money-sucking political mirage.
Filmcritic.com - 9/10 by James BrundageEveryone plays their part in making this a very funny movie.
Los Angeles Times - 9/10 by Kevin ThomasIt's a brisk, smart satirical comedy from the writers of "Police Academy" and the director of "Valley Girl," set in a Caltech-like institution for the whiz kids of the sciences. How refreshing it is to see young people depicted as having a capacity for thought as well as emotion.
Chicago Sun-Times - 9/10 by Roger EbertReal Genius contains many pleasures, but one of the best is its conviction that the American campus contains life as we know it.
Chicago Tribune - 9/10 by Gene SiskelFabulously acted and written with zing and zong, it's one of the few enjoyable movies of the summer.
Tor.com - 6/10 by Emily Asher-PerrinReal Genius shows that nerds have their own games. They don't need to run faster or get more pledges or give themselves makeovers to have fun and prove their worth.
Time Out - 6/10 by Geoff AndrewIt does make you wonder if the drive of the US education system is ultimately to develop better weapons of mass-destruction, though Coolidge's movie is too hazily good-natured to capitalise on the tougher aspects of the material.
Common Sense Media - 6/10 by Brian Costello'80s college comedy with some sex jokes, cursing.
