ColeSmithey.comCole Smithey[VIDEO] "Pyaasa" set a high watermark for Guru Dutt, and left the world with a pure tour de force of Bollywood cinema.
Chicago ReaderFred CamperThe final third of this 1957 Indian musical is convoluted but also moving, as dramatic compositions heighten the narrative conflict between artistic idealism and an avaricious society.
Radio TimesDavid ParkinsonThis heart-rending masala is a solemn meditation on the impossibility of poetry in a cruel world and it marked a distinct change in tone for actor/director Guru Dutt.
User ReviewTushar KTruly a classic................a masterpiece by a master, hats off to Late Guru Dutt.
User ReviewMartin TThis is the film that introduced me to the potential greatness of Indian arthouse cinema; I must watch more. It is a commentary on how some great poets get all the acclaim, glory and recognition only when they're dead, how people worship the dead. And boy, those brothers of the hero are sure greedy and selfish jackasses. And you can never deny the goodness of the musical numbers in this film.

User ReviewLanning :I learnt the best lesson of my life from this movie... yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hain. What really matters is love companionship which is proved when Vijay turns his back on all things material and walks away with Gulabo, hand in hand.
