Brewster seems to be an almost too-perfect example of idyllic small-town America, with everyone living in peace and harmony. So when newcomer Whiley Pritcher starts up his own local cable TV show with the question "What's wrong with Brewster?", there surely can't be any deep dark secrets in the town that are just waiting to come to the surface--can there? And when the question becomes "Who's wrong with Brewster?" things get seriously nasty.... (Full plot summary below)

Austin ChronicleMarjorie BaumgartenPublic Access is a prime example of the kind of elliptical storytelling that has become so popular these days and though it suffers some consequential narrative ambiguities, they do not mar the film's overall impact.
Laramie Movie ScopeRobert RotenWhiley Pritcher is about as pure evil as you are going to see on the screen. Ron Marquette achieves a high level of creepiness in this performance and the rest of the actors are also quite good.
Empire MagazineWilliam ThomasAn uneasy film which sets the viewer up for some surprises and delivers on that promise. Let down, however, by a weak cast of unknowns.
VarietyTodd McCarthy[Public Access] is serious-minded and bounces around some provocative ideas, but is vague about such important matters as key story points, motivation and overriding theme.
rec.arts.movies.reviewsScott RenshawWhen it comes right down to it, though, Access isn't accessible enough, and it doesn't sprint to the finish.
User Reviewscott gBryan directed this baby very nicely...no matter how bad the script makes the direction seem.
User ReviewLiv SPublic Access, as a feature film, seems far from finished, as if it needs another run or two through the editing room.
User ReviewNick MBryan Singer's debut feature showed no signs of what was to come two years later with The Usual Suspects. This slow moving indie is mostly pointless with a bit of shock value in the last half hour that does little to redeem itself.
User ReviewRiley HThis is a mess. I get it, but the execution is really brutal. Could have/should have been so much better.
