Murphy goes after bad guys who shot his friend the sheriff and abducted a local girl. In a plot reminiscent of High Noon, the posse of town blowhards gradually abandons Murphy; only tenderfoot banker Saxon remains, to prove his manhood. | User ReviewTracey cA reluctant deputy takes an even more reluctant posse after 4 dangerous thugs who killed several townspeople and left with a hostage. The posse is so inept that several of them are gunned down while engaging the enemy on 3 or 4 occasions. Ol' Murph tried to keep them in line but they were mostly pretty hopeless. Lots of gunplay made for a good western, even if it was a little lame. |
| User ReviewOrlok WWhilst I find it difficult to buy Audie Murphy as a ruthless gun for hire, hes just to clean cut, this is still an effective western. Yes there are a number of cliches, the Mexican is clearly untrustworthy because hes a mexican, the military man is clearly out of his depth without the cavalry at his back and the city slicker, played by a young John Saxon, will prove himself on the plains. |

| User ReviewSenor CA real under appreciated oater w/ a good cast w/ an early Lee Van Cleef who's in this too little. When he shows up @ the beginning & will stab you for your whiskey I was expecting great things. Unfortunately he's the first to go in the group of outlaws who come into town, kill four people, rob a bank & kidnap Zohra Kampert (that they sexually accost) who are hunted down by Audie Murphy & his 'posse from hell' Actually this posse is a little green especially banking accountant John Saxon who's barely been on a horse & has to have some whiskey splashed on his ass because he's so saddle sore. What a waste of some perfectly good whiskey but I was thinking of soaking my balls in some Wild Turkey because of this summer heat rash I have going on |
| User ReviewMartyn MA few western cliches surface in a film that could have delivered more. Murphy:"I'm going on alone." Would not be much of a posse that. All action stops so dying cowboy can deliver brief, final speech. Well performed action sequences, if a little lacking in logic: When bushwacking the bad guys from rocks rifles (which all the posse had) would have a better range than pistols. Too many support cast are given very little depth of character to work with, like they are cannon fodder. They either get shot one by one or head of "back to town" early. Gung ho, tough guy baddies abound, but they also have very thin characters. Overall: standard western, nothing special. |
