When Polly Fisher, a circus aerialist, is hurt while performing, she is taken to the house of a nearby minister, John Hartley. As she recuperates, they fall in love with each other and secretly marry. But when the truth leaks out , John's congregation rebels at having a circus woman as their minister's wife, and he is fired. | User ReviewAllan CDull circus drama about trapeze artist Marion Davies (the real-life girlfriend of William Randolph Hearst) falling for priest Clark Gable. Davies is so-so and I've never really cared for Gable, but I was hoping for some circus hokum and didn't even get much of that. There are some Tod Browning-like circus moments early in the film, which was promising, but it was really just a dull romance story between the dull leads. |
