User Review - 10/10 by Danny MThis was pretty epic. Like, if that movie Gladiator starred The Hulk instead of Russel Crowe and took place on another planet.

User Review - 10/10 by Kevin RReview: Planet Hulk Animated Feature I?ll get right to it - Planet Hulk is very good. I was able to attend a special screening of the new Planet Hulk animated feature at the Paley Center in NYC and this movie is so good, actually, that I?ll certainly purchase it to see it again when it?s released on February 2nd. Right out of the gate, pardon the pun, the story moves along with a solid pace. Director Sam Liu delivers great action from the very beginning well through to the end of the film. I was very glad to see that the action doesn?t hold back, and gets kind of violent as it rightfully should, justifying that these animated features tell the stories Marvel can?t tell on a Saturday morning. The fights between Hulk and his opponents are very satisfying and shockingly bloody at times, getting some great cheers and reactions from the audience. I thought Planet Hulk?s story was very engaging. There are some great character moments specifically with Caiera, the Red King?s lieutenant, that resonate. She gets has a great backstory and, personally, has some of the most emotional and effective character beats in the whole film. Hulk and others do get some great character development as well, but Caiera definitely gets the richest moments. I?ll admit that I?m familiar with the Planet Hulk storyline in the comics but never actually read it. I knew the basic premise going into this film, yes. but for the most part I didn?t know the actual story. I?m glad I came into the movie without having read the comics beforehand. First off, there?s a couple very cool surprises in the story, surprises that I?m not about to reveal. If you?ve read the comics you might know what I?m alluding to, but the less said the better. I was very pleasantly surprised and suddenly enthused with the movie when those couple surprises came along, one of which plays a key role in the film and is pretty neat. Seeing the previews prior to viewing the film, I was slightly turned off by Hulk being thrown into a Gladiator scenario admittedly. Having seen the film now, I can assure that all the ?Gladiator-ish? stuff in the film doesn?t feel tired or boring as I feared it would. Actually, the whole film doesn?t take place solely in a gladiator arena, and actually mixes things up really nicely, showing a variety of beautifully designed locales and interiors on the alien planet that Hulk?s finds himself on. Greg Johnson did a great job writing the script. Aside from the aforementioned surprises I mentioned earlier that I won?t spoil, Johnson does a great job bringing up some unexpected moments and manages to shock you within the context of the story. It?s a straightforward story, but told skillfully, knowing when to throw in a twist to jostle the viewer. In terms of voice work in Planet Hulk, Rick D. Wasserman voices Hulk and does a pretty good job. Some of his delivery in the film comes off a bit silly, but that might also be due to some admittedly goofy dialogue. Hulk dishes out more quips than you might be used to hearing from him in other films. The rest of the voice acting is very solid and basically what you?d expect from Marvel?s previous films. Samuel Vincent?s voice work on the alien Miek, who looks very similar to Zorak from Space Ghost, really makes that character very likeable, getting some great laughs and reactions from the audience. It was very apparent the audience grew to really like him as much as I did as the movie progressed. In terms of the animation itself, it?s provided by overseas studio Madhouse with assistance from DR Movie and MOI Animation. The animation in the film is very solid. It?s extremely consistent and stays reliably on model, unlike Hulk Vs. Wolverine which seemed to deviate off-model toward the end of that feature. The overall design of the film is what you?d expect from Frank Paur, who?s continued to deliver some beautifully art-directed films. This movie has some really fantastic background paintings, and has some of the best background designs of any of Marvel?s animated features. The planet of Sakaar is just beautiful to look at, and never gets stale or boring, making it a considerable achievement given the plethora of repetitive alien worlds seen in so many different media. The character designs aren?t as distinct and slick as Steve Gordon?s work in Ultimate Avengers or Jeff Matsuda?s with Hulk Vs. Wolverine, but it?s still very good. The film offers up some very cool alien and robot designs, serving up some well-executed sci-fi designs in that regard. Having said that, this film doesn?t really offer any regular character design work that feels fresh and different, but rather looks very similar to what we?re used to seeing in direct to video animated features over the years. Overall, the film?s story is so strong that it makes me want to rush out and read the original comics to see what Planet Hulk comic scribe Greg Pak had done initially. The real selling point to the film for me rests on the fact that it tells a very strong story. It has an abundance of action and set pieces, yes, but manages to fit all that deftly into a really well put together story. For comparison?s sake, I would definitely rate this above Invincible Iron Man and Dr. Strange, and even above Ultimate Avengers II: Rise of the Panther and Next Avengers. It manages to combine the great pace of Next Avengers and deliver on some the heavy subject matter that definitely earns the film?s PG-13 rating, much like Ultimate Avengers: The Movie and Hulk Vs. Without doubt, Planet Hulk comes Highly Recommended. There are times when this doesn?t feel like a Marvel movie, given the setting and the fact that sometimes the movie focuses on characters besides the Hulk, but that?s okay. The story is so strong, and it delivers the Incredible Hulk and some other surprises so faithfully and satisfyingly, that I did not mind. Showing a Hulk that we haven?t really seen before, Planet Hulk is honestly one of the most satisfying Marvel animated features that I?ve seen to date. If you are looking or a really great aniatied movie or if you are a hulk fan go and grab it
User Review - 10/10 by Sean TI really wanted to own a direct to DVD Marvel Animated Movie that was way more awesome and that was actually watchable. So I decided since I asked for Hulk vs. for Christmas that I'd buy the Planet Hulk movie since I heard a lot of good things about it. I bought the 2 disc special edition and brought it home, put in my XBOX 360,and watched one of the few most awesome Marvel Direct to DVD animated movies. The movie is based off the World War Hulk Comic Book Series which takes place during the Marvel Civil War arc. The Hulk is placed in a spaceship binded by big metallic arm and leg restraints and he gets a holo message from Iron Man telling him that they had no choice but to get rid of him since he caused so much damage on Earth. The Hulk lands on the Planet Sakaar and is taken prisonar and is made into a Gladiator. The Hulk even gets to speak since the Sakaar Knights placed a communicator device on his chest. We see lots of awesome alien allies of The Hulk and see lots of awesome battles in the Sakaar Arena. My favorite allies of the Hulk would have to be Mink the Black skinned Grasshopper type alien and Korg the rock body/alien The Thing type creature. The acting done by all of the heroes and all of the villains is top notch. Also the main villain of this movie known as The Red King is such an awesome character, because of the how the actor portrays him and makes him sound so evil and black hearted. I loved seeing the flashbacks that all of The Hulk's allies had and getting a treat by having Thor make a cameo in Korg's flashback. The animation in this is awesome too. Everything from the animated fights in the Arena to the character movement is animated so perfectly. I thought it was also cool to see another Asgardian inhabitant make a cameo as well. The final battle between the heroes and The Red King and his army is the most awesome final battle I've ever seen in any of Marvel Animated Movies. The extras on the DVD are not really focused so much on the Hulk and the movie, but more on the newest Marvel animated series and Marvel Motion Comics. The behind the scenes look of the Planet Hulk movie is awesome, because the creators tell how they added a lot or subtracted a lot from the comic book version to the movie version. There's also the Wolverine vs. Hulk episode from Wolverine and The X-Men which is a sequel of the Hulk vs. Wolverine movie. Also it uses the storyline from when Wolverine and The Hulk first fight eachother. There's also two awesome motion comics that have awesome storylines. There's also two awesome music video versions of the two motion comics. I highly suggest you check out the Spider-Woman Agent of SWORD Music Video. You also get to see the opening of the next Marvel animated movie "Thor Son of Asgard" which looks like the biggest pile of donkey dandruff I've ever seen. I highly recommend buying the 2 Disc Special Edition of Planet Hulk, because it is a movie you'll watch over and over again and you'll be glad you bought the better DVD version.
User Review - 10/10 by Coady MFirst off, I haven't read the graphic novel this film was based on (but probably will at some point) I enjoyed it very much probably even more than "Hulk Vs" Marvel films have yet to let me down. I'd recommend to any fan of marvel comics and of course the incredible Hulk.
User Review - 10/10 by Shain CThis was a very original and a really good story. It you have any interest in superhero movies or cartoon movies, I highly recomend this movie. It's excellent.
User Review - 10/10 by Jason BPlanet Hulk starts out with Hulk captured and on a space ship. A recording of Iron Man begins playing letting us know that the heroes of Earth have decided that Hulk is too much of a threat to the planet and as such have essentially banished him to an unpopulated world where he can't hurt anyone. Of course, everything doesn't go as planned or else it would be a very dull story. From there on we are taken on a ride that is not only filled with the action we've come to expect from Hulk but also touches a lot more on his character emotionaly than we are used to until he ultimately, saves the day. Upon seeing the announcement for this movie I wasn't very happy. Hulk is not one of my favorites and over the last few years they have been beating him down our throats (Hulk, The Incredible Hulk, Ultimate Avengers 1 & 2 which focus on him a ton, Next Avengers where he saves the day, Hulk vs) and I've been getting annoyed by it. However, after watching Planet Hulk, I am so glad they made it. The animation was well done, the voice acting excellent and a story line that actually gives personality and purpose to Hulk. Simply put, Planet Hulk puts all other hulk movies (live and animated) to shame. Well done Marvel/Lionsgate...keep them coming! P.S. While it may be animated make no mistake...this definitely is not a kid's movie.
