Ever have an identity crisis? Tell a little white lie here and there, just to make everyone happy? Well, Alex Houston has got you beat, hands down. After telling her fiancé, Dana, that her entire family is dead, Manhattanite Alex whisks off to her childhood home in South Carolina to serve as bridesmaid at her high-maintenance, estranged sister Jeannie's wedding. As she tries not to steal Jeannie's thunder by telling her family that a) she's engaged, and b) the man she's going to marry is a Jewish African American, things get a little mixed up. For starters, Alex's sharp-tongued, mischievous best friend Jonathan unwittingly starts a rumor at the wedding that Alex is gay and Dana is a woman. When her family reacts in a surprisingly supportive way, Alex decides to go with it. It's easier than telling the truth, right? But when Alex and Jonathan decide to hire sexy lesbian Risa to act as her lover when Jeannie comes to visit Alex in New York, things really start to get out of hand. Director Lee Friedlander follows up her award-winning 2004 film "Girl Play" with this witty, farcical romp that explores the sometimes comically bumbling way in which we come out to the people we love - whether we're gay or straight. As she becomes increasingly entangled in her web of lies, Alex struggles to come to terms with her fiancé, her family and most of all herself along the way.

User Review - 10/10 by Michelle GGreat movie. Just a big misunderstanding. Funny also. Pretty short and really worth watching. Well done.
User Review - 8/10 by Leo LGood movie. Interesting story plot that makes ya laugh. It follows one woman's hilarious adventure in posing as a lesbian to appease her bewildering sister, and to distract attention of the truth from her father. Great cast. Worth seeing.
User Review - 8/10 by Julieta Bhay que tenerle paciencia al principio, se pone buena =)
User Review - 8/10 by George BThis movie was pretty good actually. Both interesting and funny. Very supprising ending, did not see it coming at all. I recomend it.
User Review - 8/10 by Myra WWhen my friend introduced this as a "lesbian movie," I immediately cringed. Why would a bunch of gay guys wanna watch a bunch of lesbians?! (no offense to the les pop on here.) But it turned out to be a very funny movie afterall. The sister of the bride and maid of honor is mistaken to be gay, and her family tries to accept this part of her life. Little do they know! When her married sister wants to come to New York for a visit and meet the new girlfriend, she has to play along and find a real lesbian to play the part. She gives her new friend the same name as her real male fiance, which only confuses things even more. It's a comedy of errors on how one lie leasds to another to cover up the first, and another to cover that, ad nauseum, until the truth is so far removed that it's anybody's guess what's true or false. Oh and her best friend who IS gay helps her perpetuate the myth to her family and her fiance and his family. All in all, it was a good movie.
User Review - 8/10 by Jacky LWhat a little gem! Very enjoyable, funny, cute, sweet, great indy movie from Lee Friedlander! I thought Cathy DeBuono and Charlie Schlatter did a wonderful job acting and DeBuono along with Desi Lydic did a lovely ballroom dance at the club. Andrea Marcellus plays the role of New Yorker Alex who goes to South Carolina for her sister Jeannie's (Desi Lydic) wedding. She does not want her bigoted family to know that her fiancee is a black Jewish man, so instead everyone at the wedding arrive to the conclusion that Alex is gay LOL...She thinks that the misunderstanding is better than the truth but once her married sister visits her in NY, Alex has a lot of trouble passing as gay with a lesbian lover (played so well by DeBuono) and certain unexpected things take place where the crap hits the fan! Oh I highly recommend this comedy- a gem! My favorite characters were Charlie Schlatter and Cathy DeBuono.
User Review - 8/10 by Chris WA misunderstood and film that really deserves a wider audience, it is sensitive and is not afraid to poke fun at itself.
User Review - 6/10 by Peter LSo the acting isn't always spot on, the story is over the top - BUT THE FUN! This film sent me info fits of hysterical laughter, it is charming, funny and extremely entertaining. Technically it might not be the best feature ever made, but the sheer fun of it even made me add an extra half star. Great, indie entertainment, just the right thing for a date movie or a nice night in with your loved one. My recommendation: combine it with It's in the Water and you'll have a great, fun, queer movie night. :-)
User Review - 6/10 by Carrie Cold story, but with a new point of view. interesting.
User Review - 6/10 by D GI dont normally enjoy lesbian themed movies but this one is much funnier that I expected and a fun movie to watch.
