Three department store girls--Connie, Franky, and Jerry--share an apartment on West 91st Street in New York City. Each earns little more than 20 dollars per week. Jerry is the sensible one, but the others throw themselves at amoral rich men in an attempt to hook one and better themselves. | User ReviewSamuel COur Blushing Brides is a really wonderful pre-code movie. There were a lot of movies like this at the time, with three single women living together and dealing with their dramatic issues. This one isn't as good as my favorite, Beauty for Sale, but it's still one of the most essential pre-code films, with excellent performances from Joan Crawford and Anita Page. Poor Anita Page. :( |

| User ReviewLee Anne WJoan, Anita Page, and Dorothy Sebastian, all three impossibly gorgeous hot-cha flapper types, work in a department store and look for love. Joan is so, so beautiful, and since it's a department store movie, there are lots of those scenes where a bevy of pretty girls model the current fashions, lots of bias-cut dresses and some pretty scanty lingerie. The costumes and set design (a crazy modern treehouse!) are sublime. |
