Film4Film4 StaffFor sheer excitement, virtuoso fight sequences and extravagant special effects, Hark's film is hard to beat.
About.comFred TopelGreat follow-up to OUATIC. More of a political conspiracy plot than a cultural one, but still has great fight scenes.
Deseret News (Salt Lake City)Chris Hicks...this sequel has some of the most astounding action you've ever seen, proving that when Tsui is compared to Steven Spielberg it's no exaggeration.
Apollo GuideRyan CracknellWith its ability to maintain a balance between a high standard of intense action and thought-provoking storytelling, Once Upon a Time in China II accomplishes something very few sequels achieve: it outshines the original.
Capital Times (Madison, WI)Rob ThomasMuch more than just another martial arts movie.
User ReviewJen TJet Li does it again as Wong Fei-Hung - excellent work.
User ReviewMark DThe Qing Dynasty came into troughs. Chinese were stubborn and powerless. All these made China to be a big fresh to other bigpowers,eg the American and the British, etc. However, there were a hero - master Wong Fei-Hung who was a master of martial arts as well as a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine and he couldnt help to save his country. But the truth was, although he was very strong in Chinese Kung Fu, he couldnt do anything to save the impotent Chinese government. I think I can understand his helplessness....
User ReviewEdwin TSome say Terminator 2 is the greatest sequel of all time. I say it's Once upon a Time In China 2!
User ReviewEric Ntriumphant sequel. like good sequels all do, this movie benefits from a familiarity with the characters and not doing an origin story, and it's also a fish-out-of-water entry in the series which brings a sense of constant surprise. dark & slow, the dry 2nd act builds to an astonishing double-climax! it's definitely less enjoyable than the 1st movie as it's less pretty on the eyes, but the action is phenomenal again, demanding slow-motion viewing it's so legendary. i pity those who haven't witnessed Jet Li vs Donnie Yen in this movie!
User ReviewAlexandre Sagain GREAT MOVIE. i love this movie and i love jet li.
