Film Threat - 8/10 by Rory L. AronskyIfans and McArdle disappear and become the men they portray.
User Review - 10/10 by Tom SHere in America, most of us are knowledgeable of Dudley Moore. I first knew of him from Arthur and when he acted with the sexy Bo Derek in "10." Just recently, an English buddy of mine introduced me to "Derek and Clive" a comedy act recording of Two Drunk Englishmen hilariously vulgar. To think Dudley was one of them had me curious about this dynamic duo, this comedy pairing's life. In my research, I stumbled into this recent TV Adaptation movie of their life. It's a beautiful movie with humor fogged by the shiny brilliance of cold melancholy. Aidan McArdle at first didn't seem like a suitable Dudley Moore, but as the movie progresses, his acting only aged like perfect single malt whiskey. Rhys Ifans, on the other hand, as Peter Cook was spectacular, powerfully hypnotic. So much hypnotic that his wistful stare was haunting. There are many highlights throughout this film, occasional strong nudity, and lots of humor. The narrators are a dead Dudley Moore and Peter Cook, and the ending discussion of the two was beautiful. The mood of this movie was finely captured, like a dream as opposed to real life famed comedians. But that's how Peter Cook and Dudley Moore were like in reality when they lived: dream like icons.
User Review - 10/10 by Mark SA fucking great bit of acting by these two. Rhys Ifans is fucking brilliant as Peter Cook, so much so that you forget you aren't watching the man himself. In fact Ifans is so good that Aidan McArdle's Dud seems just a little forced. However, a ball bustingly good flick and one you should buy even if you haven't seen it. This is good shit, anyone who says otherwise should be shot.
User Review - 8/10 by Ronald WThe film is really nicely done. Interesting story, with awkward timeline. The film was ended in a high note, where the two met again and just talk and joke around at Peter's house. The death of Peter, on the other hand, was placed before this scene. Which is just brilliant. It's like watching a movie with two endings. Hits both end of the emotional spectrum.
User Review - 8/10 by Clay BGreat bio-pic, very well cast and acted. Some nice transitions and great use of the Pete n Dud characters.
User Review - 8/10 by Private UFantastic performances from all concerned. Rhys Ifans IS Peter Cook. Yes, in look and feel it's obviously only a telemovie, but it knows it and gets around it in some pretty ingenious ways. Worth it whether you're an existing fan or no.
User Review - 8/10 by scott ga great and nostalgic look at two english comedy greats peter cook and dudley moore and there really bad working relationship, and solo careers, it sems there working ways just dident gel, and many nights of bad stage performance, there up and downs and hi life, cooks jealousy at moores hollywood career, and possibly, a criticly better career. rhys fans, as cook is superb, a welshman nailing cooks english acent, and charactor, also aidan mcardle as moore, again nailing his charactor, what starts off as possibly a film about cooke soon turns into a film about both, and moore and cooke getting equal share of screen time, the film covers good ground, and although like all biographies, events probely changed, charactors created, me not being the biggest fan of the two, and not knowing much, i certainly was informed, and am certainly interested exploring there work more, lots of cook and moore work getting recreated here, and although im not best to judge, seems genuin and looks good,
User Review - 8/10 by Duncan MWhen a life is as extraordinary as Peter Cook's it's difficult to fit it into 100 minutes, and this film doesn't quite do it, but it is a worthy achievement nonetheless. Rhys Ifans is fantastic as Cook, portraying a tortured but unbelievably quick mind. Well worth a watch.
User Review - 8/10 by Ewan GBiopic of the late, great Peter Cook & Dudley Moore. Amazing casting with both Rhys Ifans & Aidan McArdle being so good you forget that they are actors playing Pete & Dud. Jonathan Miller & Alan Bennett are also portrayed very well. Quite sad in parts but also very funny & not afraid to show the darker side which added to Peter Cook's edge.
User Review - 6/10 by Gary CThis true-to-life dramatization of the comedy double act Peter Cook and Dudley Moore is notable mainly for Rhys Ifans' remarkable performance. He IS Peter Cook! The witty and insightful script is full of his characteristically surreal barbs and satire, and shows the behind the scenes squabbling and resentments that show that once again, genius and madness seem to go hand in hand. The post-modern device of having a black and white Pete and Dud commentating on the story is more annoying than amusing, but otherwise, a fine bio pic.
