Leave your thoughts about Northmen: A Viking Saga.
VarietyDennis HarveyThe cast is earnestly committed, and if there are a few too many hokey last-second rescues from certain doom, Northmen nevertheless rarely risks curdling into camp.
User ReviewSophia LMuch better than you think and not as bland as most Hollywood entries
User ReviewWes GI'd like to see the critics make a movie as good as this.... oh yeah, that's why they become critics after film school :)
User ReviewClayton ETerrific low-budget Viking film true to the characters. Northmen, Christians, Scots, even Picts have their say, use their hearts and minds and muscle. Starts with a shipwreck and roars like a lion from there. Great and brutal fight scenes, pity visions, lots of surprises, character turnarounds, the works. Not to be missed by any Viking fans. And the scenery is fabulous - and you'll never guess where on Earth they filmed it!
User ReviewGimly MYet another epic viking saga. This one has some good twists & turns in the plot with FX that aren't too outlandish. This tale could nearly have actually happened.
User ReviewMartin GIt's a Viking movie, I mean it's Vikings, what's not to like.
User ReviewCameron NEntertaining action movie, although I wish it had actually been somewhat more cheesy and less serious (more blood, drinking, etc...it is a Viking movie after all.) Also, highly disappointed that the movie was marketed around Johan Hegg of Amon Amarth being in the movie and he died very early on.
User ReviewKevin Dean FThis I really liked a lot. Fine acting and visuals gave it a very game of Thrones style.
User ReviewMirza Mohd SAn independent film about the great wild warriors of the north aka Vikings stranded on a foreign land & starring relatively unknown faces is the not the ideal kind of film I would prefer to watch or doubtfully enjoy, until I got an invite to a special screening (Thanks to Front Row Filmed Entertainment). Surprisingly I actually enjoyed the film! The beautiful cinematography by Lorenzo Senatore is probably the best part of this swords & sandal actioner. The portrayal of the wonderful landscapes of South Africa & Switzerland are just exceptional! The large frame depictions & the intense moments at times reminded me of The Lord Of The Ring series & The Eagle (2011). The plot here is pretty simple, with no unnecessary twists & turns, & everything is kept well in a good old fashioned way. The actors have done a decent job; Tom Hopper being the lead puts in a strong charismatic performance & at times even reminds of a younger Chris Hemsworth back in Thor(2011). Charlie Murphy as the only female lead is likeable. Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) probably being the only known face from the cast , as a lethal Christian monk, has without doubts the most scene stealer moments in the film. Well yes people looking for a more detailed history lesson or characterization of our lead players will be quite disappointed, but keeping in mind the audience the film aims to reach, director Claudio Fäh has made sure the film is filled with strong & 'epic' action sequences, that a few goof ups can be looked away. On the whole Northmen - A Viking Saga may not cater to wider audience, but its surely a hell of a ride for people who love sword & sandal movies!
User Reviewnina rIn a curious switch, an invading Viking horde set on doing the usual Viking activities and atrocities for which they are world renowned, becomes the protagonist after their vessel is sunk in a storm. Forced to escape overland, hounded by mercenaries, and traveling with a princess hostage, the film's question is whether they can escape to rape and pillage again. So its a chase film set in the old world, but it does invoke the setting and the cliché characters are portrayed well enough to involve the casual viewer.
