Movie Reviews

Empire - 10/10 by William ThomasGood performances from a strong cast and paranoid plotting enough to keep even the staunchest of remake nay-sayers quiet. Hitchockian production with a modern twist.
Orlando Sentinel - 10/10 by Jay BoyarA thriller that grabs you even before the ironies of its plot kick in is a thriller you don't want to miss. No Way Out is that sort of movie, a thriller that's thrilling throughout.
South Florida Sun-Sentinel - 10/10 by Candice RussellSex, violence and secrecy can make a volatile on-screen combination, but not this time.
Chicago Sun-Times - 10/10 by Roger EbertNo Way Out is a superior example of the genre, a film in which a simple situation grows more and more complex until it turns into a nightmare not only for the hero but also for everyone associated with him. At the same time, it respects the audience's intelligence, gives us a great deal of information, trusts us to put it together and makes the intellectual analysis of the situation one of the movie's great pleasures.
The New York Times - 10/10 by Vincent CanbyNo Way Out has the exuberance of something freshly conceived. It's so effective, in fact, that when it's all over, you might want to sit through the beginning again just to see if the end is justified by the means. I suspect that it is.
Washington Post - 9/10 by Hal HinsonIn thriller terms it's close to irresistible and enormously entertaining. And the movie's lack of weight is part of what makes it work, part of its gripping purity. What this movie, which as a political thriller has more in common with "Three Days of the Condor" or "Seven Days in May" than "All the President's Men," has going for it is a great premise: the mainspring of this big clock is built to run.
Los Angeles Times - 9/10 by Sheila BensonNo Way Out's greatest prize is Costner, a leading man at last: fiercely good, intelligent, appreciatively sensual in a performance balanced perfectly between action and introspection. It's a movie that lends itself to more than one sitting, and when you go back, armed with full understanding, Costner's work seems even better than the first time, richer, more complex and many layered.
Chicago Reader - 8/10 by Jonathan RosenbaumThis taut thriller adds so many twists of its own it might be more appropriately cross-referenced with The Manchurian Candidate, even though it isn't nearly as daffy or as mercurial.
Reel Film Reviews - 8/10 by David Nusair...primarily comes off as a fast-moving and increasingly compelling thriller...
TIME Magazine - 8/10 by Richard SchickelViewers who arrive at the movie five minutes late and leave five minutes early will avoid the setup and payoff for the preposterous twist that spoils this lively, intelligent remake of 1948's The Big Clock.
