San Diego Union-TribuneAlison GangDespite the lack of solutions, "Murder Capital of the World" accomplishes what seems to be Minn's goal: make his American audience feel compassion and a righteous sense of injustice for the people of Juarez.
Seattle TimesJeff ShannonAs Mexican drug cartels continue their deadly campaigns of narco-terrorism, it quickly becomes clear why Charlie Minn's film is titled "Murder Capital of the World."
Los Angeles TimesGary GoldsteinMinn, who often appears on camera, packs this grimly compelling, if slightly padded film with strong archival TV news footage, plus wrenching testimony from the relatives of several innocent bystanders gunned down around the El Paso-Juarez border.
The New York TimesStephen HoldenHeartbreaking stories of families who have lost loved ones alternate with the voices of experts from academia, law enforcement and politics who give their views on the causes of the crisis.
New York Daily NewsElizabeth WeitzmanCharlie Minn seems intent on educating the world about the crisis of violence occurring in Mexico. While his new film feels too much like a retread of "8 Murders a Day," which he released last year, it's still urgent enough to warrant a view.
User ReviewGareth BI recently went to a local theatre to see Murder Capital of the World with little expectation as to how good this movie was going to be. I have to say; I found this movie to be one of the most comprehensibly compelling documentary style films I have ever seen. The violence that has consumed Juarez, Mexico by drug lords and the blatant corruption throughout local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies has created an environment never seen this close to US soil. The movie points out several disturbing facts such as the murder rate in Juarez has declined from 8 per day to an astonishing 6 per day; the majority of which are never investigated due to their sheer numbers. This film takes you on a journey through the violent streets of Juarez like no one else dares and will open your eyes to the horrors that are taking place just a stone skip over the US southern border. The real heroes of this film are that the citizens of Juarez that are desperately trying to take their City back form all the corruption and murder that has all but destroyed their home town. I would highly recommend this movie to everyone as it was extremely well made, and focused on a subject that the United States has all but ignored up to this point.
