Puerto Rico has become the back door by which a criminal syndicate smuggles inexpensive contraband diamonds from South America into the United States, dramatically driving down the price of legitimate gems. After they have ruthlessly murdered a special investigator, Moto is assigned to the case. While sailing to the island he impresses Twister McGurk, a slow-witted but amiable wrestler, with his martial arts abilities and gains a loyal friend and bodyguard. When an attempt on his life fails and another government official is murdered, Moto sends authorities a fake telegram identifying himself as a criminal named Shimura and making him and the Twister wanted fugitives. That ploy allows them to infiltrate the gang and expose the criminal mastermind behind it.

| User ReviewOrlok WMr. Moto is a fascinating character being a prewar Japanese spy or private investigator. It is really uncertain about Mr. Moto, but Peter Lorre does a convincing job of playing him. The problem with the film is that I is almost comedic and I should be more mysterious, so instead of getting the Maltese Falcon you get the Three Stooges. The direction of this film just went the wrong way. |
| User ReviewAlex SFirst rate fun. There are plenty of twists and turns as always and Lorre does another fine job of chewing the scenery as Mr. Moto. Hymer does a good job as Twister and adds some good comic relief. It's also fun to look back on the character of Commissioner Gordon now that the name has become popularized by the Batman mythos. |
