User Review - 10/10 by Brian SAh yes! The good old days when Sci-Fi was simple. All you needed was a little radiation and most anything was possible. This movie was one of the last 50's Sci-Fi movies from Universal coming out in 1959-same year I did. Audiences then were not as sophisticated as they are now and quicker to give a movie the benefit of the doubt. This was the day of the Drive-In movie. Anyone my age or older should enjoy the simplicity of this film and the nostalgic quality of it. Good solid performances by Arthur Franz and especially Joanna Moore (whom would later become notable as one of Andy Taylor's girlfriends on TV). Plenty of the good old character actors from Universal's other Sci-Fi films give it a familiar feel. This movie doesn't ask you to think too much; when I was a kid watching Shock Theatre on a Saturday afternoon I didn't want to. Sure, the make-up could have been much better but from a distance the monster is quite scary. You don't have to look close to find a few blunders: lace-up shoe or loafer? You'll hear music from practically all of Universal's Sci-Fi and horrors movies: Tarantula, Frankenstein, the Mummy movies. This movie is probably not very entertaining to the younger generations of viewers other than finding it quite campy. How far we've come as an audience. But this movie tries hard and with its budget I've got to give it credit. It holds a warm spot in my heart and a solid place in my video library. 5 Stars 10-10-13
User Review - 8/10 by Mark WI seem to be the only person who actually really enjoyed this movie... As a lover of the old school b&w horror fun, this fit the collection quite nice! The prospect of the story is a little odd and generally quite inconsistent, but that's why you have to love these classic flicks.
User Review - 6/10 by Trinity CSurprisingly good 1950's horror film. The cast is very good, it is low budget, but not terrible so. So of the special effects are quite good. Joanna Moore is particularly fine. Not too long, well paced.
User Review - 6/10 by Justin Ra Jekyll & Hyde like story from the director of "Creature from the Black Lagoon" "The Incredible Shrinking Man" & "Tarantula"
User Review - 6/10 by Jason HThis is an extremely campy, derivative film that features an almost utterly moronic plot conceit and protagonist. But, that being said, I enjoyed it immensely. Fairly grisly murders for a 50s B-level sci-fi film, gigantic prehistoric fish and dragonflies, dog attacks, etc. make this a fun film for fans of the genre.
User Review - 6/10 by James-Masaki RStandard variation on the Jekyll/Hyde theme in this Universal Studios cheapie. Good, cheesy fun.
User Review - 6/10 by Martin BNote to self: If going back to 1958 and work as a scientific professor and your job includes examining a pre-historic fish, Do not let german shepard drink melting water from its transporting box, don't put your hand in the dead fish mouth and let it bite you, and please, don't smoke the fishes blood in a pipe. This won't end good. You will tear up any room you happen to occupy at the moment and you will eventually kill all babes in sight and you'll don't remember much the day after. Doing the above is not recommended, but watching a movie about is pretty amusing A lot of 1950's sentiment like this qoute: Professor Donald Blake: Ah, the human female in the perfect state - helpless and silent.
User Review - 6/10 by Wes SEssentially a sci-fi remake of the Wolf-man, so of course it lacks in comparison and doesn't feel all too original. The monster make-up is more fake-looking, but still neat to look at. The characters are a bit underdeveloped, but they get through the story just fine.
User Review - 4/10 by Mark Boh roger corman you produced such grade "A" schlock that people like me ... enjoy :)
User Review - 4/10 by Russell GDecent enough play on a Jeckyl & Hyde thing. It's brought down but having the worlds most moronic, unsafe scientist in the lead. I mean really, he's far to much of an idiot to miss just how obvious everything is.
