After a long night of wandering, Fred wakes up in the middle of nowhere, baked by the Texas sun. Stumbling home, he finds his friends Bill and Duck are none too happy that he missed his own going away party. But something mysterious happened the night before. Fred is ready to tackle his demons and stay in town-to face the mistakes of his life and make them right. Little does he know that his announced departure has created a maelstrom of unrest amongst his friends-a breeding ground for truth. Walking into a hornet's nest of revelations, the friends he thought he knew turn Fred's world upside down. In the wake of this extraordinary day, four life-long friends say the words they've never had the courage to say, and learn truths about themselves and each other that will change the nature of their relationships forever. "It's kind of like therapy, only with guns and booze." A story about finding truth and self-worth by any means necessary, an unusual love rectangle which takes viewers into the depths of a small town in Texas, where on the surface values appear simple. The paths of four friends overlook different, but intersecting horizons. Eyes are opened and one is left on the road to an uncertain destiny. Midlothia was shot on location in Midlothian, TX, a small town south of Dallas known as the cement capitol of Texas.

User Review - 10/10 by Ken GThis is a solid film. It is exactly what independent cinema should be. Real characters and a clever original story. Midlothia is funny and tense and a real ride. I rented this film because the story looked good and I was not disappointed. The movie involves three long time friends in the middle of nowhere and a girl. One of the characters has a secret and when it gets out all hell breaks loose. It's a story everyone can relate to, I would suggest this film to any one. A++
User Review - 10/10 by JR MI was blown away when I watched this. I hadn't heard much about it, but a friend lent it to me and I loved it. The look of this film is amazing, and though the film is powerful and dramatic, it still leaves space for a very unique brand of humor. It reminded me of David Gordon Green's early films. In smaller films there is usually a gaping hole in one or more of the performances, but each and every character is filled with so much life and vigor that you forget there is no big budget tricks, just great writing and some work by a group of actors with huge futures. Writer/director and star, Bill Sebastian, is a stand out amongst stand outs, and deserves a lot of credit for creating a small film that feels epic in emotional scope and has you engaged throughout. With our short attention spans nowadays, that is no easy feat.
User Review - 8/10 by Jim MThe biggest problem with movies in general (from big-budget blockbusters to micro-budgeted indies) is that most directors forget that films must be digestible on both an immediate "enjoyability" level, and also on a long-term intellectual level. (Well, they either forget, or they are unable to accomplish the feat of presenting both levels effectively.) "Midlothia" is a commendable example of a film that deftly balances both two sides, creating an entertaining and intriguing film-watching experience. The film follows Fred (Bill Sebastian) as he haphazardly - sometimes violently - uncovers the hidden truths surrounding his closest friends. Far from simple plot points, these truths profoundly change how Fred views his friends and, most importantly, himself. Production design, cinematography and editing is better than most micro-budgeted indies, and while the cast is very small, the acting is believable. I highly recommend this entertaining film.
User Review - 8/10 by Luke WThis film is a dark satire, while it serves as commentary on the undereducated poor of industrialized rural communities of Texas. In real life, the city of Midlothian itself is a an extremely depressing place to be. (It's on the EPA watchlist as one of the unhealthiest places to live in America; residents of Midlothian call it the Cement Capital of Texas.) I'm frustrated, because I can't express my rating as a percentage. My rating is not arbitrary. I give it an 82% rating, based on acting, story, directing, editing, and other criteria. Bill Sebastian, the filmmaker, adapted this film from a stage play, so it's not as action-oriented as Bill's ninja film, nor is there as much slapstick humor.
