User Review - 10/10 by Grant LIt's nearly impossible to find today, but it signals the beginning of modern filmmaking.
User Review - 10/10 by Private UI'm surprised they have this. One of my favorites.
User Review - 10/10 by Justin BBrilliant film. It's a shame this film's creative, frenetic directing/editing didn't permeate mainstream film culture... this is a melodramatic story but told in an exclusively visual fashion that transcends the simple information-relaying of most directing and enters the realm of high art.
User Review - 10/10 by Sudhang SWhile the plot was fairly simplistic, one overlooks this shortcoming in favour of the sublime editing, cinematography and the extremely beautiful locales. The acting is pretty melodramatic too, but the director employs the technique very, very well; As a result, the actors never seem annoyingly cloy, despite modern tastes. An excellent silent film
User Review - 10/10 by Sam LOne of the greatest achievements in world cinema. Kirsanoff's film, which is rumored to have been completed before Eisenstein's "Potemkin," is a tour de force of editing and direction, form and style. Two months before she died, legendary film critic Pauline Kael said it was her favorite film of all-time.
User Review - 10/10 by X. TA melodramatic story of jealousy, lost innocence, and reconciliation between two orphaned sisters in the city gets the city symphony/The Man With the Movie Camera treatment. The whole "story" is told in montage instead of intertitles in periods of rapid cutting/dissolves and stillness. The jarring elliptical narrative and use of handheld camera are very impressive. The experimental score is bold as the visuals.
User Review - 10/10 by Eric RThis film is a technical masterpiece of editing, direction and sound. The visuals are absolutetly incredible and the score is just as impressive. Its a melodramatic story of jealously and innocence involving two orphaned sisters that is executed to perfection. Its a visual poem that is right up there with Eisenstein's 'Strike' as my favorite silent film ever.
User Review - 10/10 by Kris KQuite possibly the best film ever made. Haunting and breathtaking visuals; smart editing and brilliant use of the camera; innovative use of sound, narrative, the whole works.
User Review - 10/10 by Stephen CGround breaking silent era film. The excellent use of montage communicates the inner feelings of the characters, without having to resort to intertitles. The subject matter is also intense, or at least it was for the time.
User Review - 10/10 by Maarrk HAbsolutely stunning. How often is it you watch a film and spend the next week thinking about how all you want to do is watch it again? And then again? (Not to mention, here's where Lynch stole virtually everything).
