| User ReviewSarah HThis is another of Asylum's original flicks and not a mockbuster and these are the ones I tend to enjoy a bit more because they're usually made a bit more straight and serious (Minus the gimmicky ones such as Mega Shark vs Gant Octopus), and despite the usual bad acting, horrible effects, and a questionable script, you can feel the care that's put into them and that they're trying to do the best they can with the budget they got, which is always significantly low. While this one is not a whole lot different in style then any of their other more recent movies, especially their last natural disaster movie, Doomsday 2012, it is different for one main reason â?? they managed to rope in Brittney Murphy somehow. How on Earth they were able to get such a high-profile actress for their very low-budget cheap cheesy movie is beyond me, but it helped raise this movie up above their usual fare, at least for me. Add to that, Justin Hartley of Smallville fame and it instantly has my attention (As if being an Asylum movie didn't already do that). The acting is way above average for this production company, and I don't just mean from the main stars like Murphy or Hartley, but from the minor characters as well, which is normally a low point for Asylum-made movies. And speaking of Asylum's low points, even the effects in this movie, apart from one or two scenes, were way above average for this company â?? some CGI disaster scenes actually looking BETTER then some in the big budget Hollywood 2012 movie, and alot of the action and chase scenes were just as good as any in that movie, though on a much smaller scale. Also, the musical score was quite noticeable in this movie, and in a good way. It seems that with the SyFy Channel backing this movie, a much larger budget was thrown their way to make it with, and it was put to good use. The script probably could have benefited a bit from some tight tuning, but even that was above average for this production company. Overall, while the movie itself is very obviously a low-budget made for TV movie, when you take into account the fact that its made by The Asylum, its actually pretty damn good and well-made, by their standards. |
