Parallax ViewSean AxmakerAn early entry in the "sex and sadism" genre, this is an exploitation film with an intelligence behind it, but an exploitation film nonetheless...
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzThe pic lacks the substance that made Michael Reeves' The Conqueror Worm a horror classic, as it too easily settles in to be solely a shocker torture-porn flick.
Sight and SoundAnton BitelIt's a curiosity alright, but more akin to a Monty Python feature (with its tits out) than to, say, The Devils (1971).
User Reviewdelysid dI thought this was great, almost as great as vinvent price in witchfinder general, its a similar sort of picture but this has more torture
User Reviewstacy dA Perfect Perfomance of the Witch Chases in the Renaissance it exactly happens that Way the Witch Hunters were sexual disturbed evil Persons like the Nazis this was one of the best German Exploitation Movies and one of the best Performances of Udo Kier and the Female Lead Actor is one of the beautifulst Women i ever seen and it shows how less the ordinary People think as they kill the Man who were their only Chance to Change
User ReviewWayne ZStill not available uncut in the UK. I saw the uncut version and immediately ran out of my house on a mission to find girls that i thought were witches so i could take them home and inflict medieval tortures upon them. (not really). It really is pathetic that the BBFC can't leave films like this alone. Anyhow, Herbert Lom is great as the impotent Witchfinder General. The tortures they used to inflict in the name of church and God are unbelieveable, but mostly true. Proof that religions have always been evil and corrupt. Mostly based on actual events, but also with some bullshit thrown in. (Witchfinders never used Chinese water torture, for example!)
User ReviewPavandeep SA wonderful film, well-acted and well done scenes. It was not a gore fest, the violence was there but the ultimate aim was to show the persersities of using superstion over scientific, rational proof, the faith over empirical knowledge. A well sone film, the torture scenes were really a delight to see, not as disturbing as Hostel, maybe it's the music, which was more gorgeous than it being ugly or grotesque or anything else.
User ReviewPrivate Umy 1st hard core horror flick with a complimentary barf bag and all. excellent for the time
User ReviewWill L'Mark of the Devil' is largely a gimmick, but it's a pretty good one. It's a somewhat tired story, but it's well acted and handsomely produced. There's also some decent gore (though not as much as the advertising would suggest) and even a few touches of black humor thrown in where needed.
User ReviewSean Ca quite disturbing movie with lots of torture. but this story has to be told.
