Examiner.comJeff BeckSadly, with Lord of Illusions, Clive Barker stumbles into the same pitfalls he did when he made Nightbreed just five years earlier. It's dull, unengaging, and features a plot that is stretched out far past its breaking point.
Georgia StraightSteve NewtonIt's a sad day for both fright fans and the man Stephen King once prophesied was "the future of horror".
User ReviewKelly HThis movie freaks me out every time I watch it. I'm definately afraid of the Puritan.
User ReviewMark Wvery true to the Clive Barker books. Has a bit of the old Bogart or "B movie" style to it.
User ReviewJames DClive Barker and magick that alone makes this an excellent movie
User ReviewTony KKJOC and Count Bakula in the same movie! Absolutely campy, yet still scary and very original. I watch it about once a year and I don't think I will ever get bored of it.
User ReviewWilliam RThis film, directed by Clive Barker, takes us into a world of magic, demons and religion. Although I'm not sure that this really counts as a horror movie, I enjoyed it a great deal. This film centres around Harry D'Amour, a private investigator, who must stop a supernatural cult from raising Nix, a man with god-like powers and who was killed 13 years before. The use of music gives the film an epic scale, which it wouldn't have had otherwise. This film tries to mix horror and fantasy, something it doesn't seem to do very well, but it is still an amazing film which did draw me in. Those who want to see blood and people dying will get their wish. The part when Nix returns makes me laugh because of the blind devotion his followers show him. The reason this makes me laugh is because most of them die. I would give this film 7 out of 10 overall because, although it was good, I have seen better.
