New Yorker - 10/10 by Richard BrodyThe natural splendors of blue water, rocky shore, bright sky, and hilly terrain provide a serene setting for the eternal struggles of man versus man, man versus woman, and man versus his own worst instincts.

User Review - 10/10 by First LI adore Rohmer anyway, but I LOVED this movie. So much. Most people will probably watch it and think, "Huh?" But I don't care. WONDERFUL!
User Review - 10/10 by mpilar bRohmer's films are intellectual exercises, smart, and amusing. Love them.
User Review - 10/10 by Josh SPacked with insight. Incredible. Simple yet profound.
User Review - 10/10 by Firas MOh my... oh my... I absolutely LOVED this film! I cannot state how amazing this film is. Completely intelligent, classy and simple. It is boggling the amount of depth Rohmer is able to bring to such a dialogue heavy film. A psychological analysis of a seduced man and a philosophical pondering of his moral ideas. So much depth in such simplicity. Feels like literature, partly because it's dialogue heavy and of it's protagonist's monologue. I don't know where to begin. This is not a movie that tries to entertain with action, edits and jokes, but it is does so on a mental and emotional level. Kept me engaged equally in thought and emotion. It's been many years since I read about Rohmer's films and I'd had high expectations thus my hesitancy to watch them. Well Mr Rohmer has given me all that I'd expected and completely blew it out the water. This to me is one of my greatest experiences in the theater. My first Eric Rohmer film and certainly not the last one I'll see. I'll say it again, Completely intelligent, classy and simple.
User Review - 10/10 by Ryan HA perfect film in every way. I love the way that Rohmer always made his films like literature, but it never feels forced. The entire time I felt like laughing at Adrien because of how he always thought that Haydee was falling for him. In fact, to the audience it seems like she is highly uninterested. Adrien keeps thinking that she is going after Daniel to get his attention, or acting uninterested to get him interested. From the beginning Adrien says he thinks that she will be a thorn in his side, and it turns out to be true. He just wanted to vacation without any thoughts and be to himself, but there is no way he can do that when such a beautiful and intriguing girl such as Haydee is around. Or at least Adrien seems to think she's intriguing. But we know from Haydee's prologue that she doesn't have a single thought in her head. She doesn't have some large scheme, Adrien just needs to stay out of his head and stop messing around with her. Daniel says that he doesn't want anything to do with Haydee because he is bored with the girls that every guy wants, yet he turns to her because Adrien talks him into it. My question: did Haydee really collect men or was she just honestly looking for some fun? Or maybe her fun was her collection? I feel like this might give her too much credit, which is odd for a French New Wave film. But Rohmer tells us that women are strong and independent with Adrien's prologue, which can set us up for putting in a woman without thought for the rest of the film. It's shot beautifully, the actors are brilliant, and I love the witty dialogue. This is just as good or better than Suzanne's career.
User Review - 10/10 by Christopher WThematically one of my favorites from Rohmer though I wouldnt say objectively his best. Characterization and dialogue are definitely where Rohmer excels and here are prime examples of what he is capable of but it lacks a bit in pacing. But I'm splitting hairs here, it still remains one of the finest films I've ever seen.
