House Next DoorDan CallahanThe laughs keep coming, and the biggest one is always when existentialist Grant (Richard Anderson) barks to Troy Donahue-like Ron (Peter Brown), "Now cool it, you creep, and co-exist!"
User ReviewChristopher SAnn-Margret's over the top energy and John Forsythe's stodgy befuddlement play an excellent counterpoint in this extraordinary campy pulp drama. For all its B-movie bravado, this is really some sharp filmmaking from writer-director Douglas Heyes, with some expertly-crafted suspense, great moody black and white photography by Joseph Biroc, and a simmering jazz score (some of it lifted from Henry Mancini's score for 'Touch of Evil'). A strange, sexy cult masterpiece.
User ReviewDave SShockingly good. Yes, there are points where the plot points cross over into idiocy - the characters aren't always trapped so much as they flat out make bad choices. Still, two-time Academy Award nominee Ann Margret (no, really) is a friggin' force of nature in this.
User ReviewBill BAnn Margret was one sexy vixen in her youth. In Kitten w/ a Whip (what a great working title) she is absolutely creamy. Sure it's filled w/ dated dialogue but I found it delicious. There could have been more sexual tension betwenn Margret & Forsythe but on a whole it's good trashy fun. Even though she is one crazy bitch Im a sucker for Margret here. She oozes young delinquent sexual energy that made my eyes & ears burn. Good goddamn if you get too close to this sorta heat your bound to get scorched as Forsythe soon learned..featured on MST3K which just isn't fair. This movie doesn't deserve to have the piss taken out of it. It's a real train wreck gem for all the right reasons
User ReviewJohn DThis cult classic had never made it to a proper dvd release. Universal has recently released it as part of their "burn on demand" Vault series of DVD-Rs that are available exclusively at Amazon. The quality is quite excellent though with a beautifully remastered 16X9 transfer.

User ReviewEric BThere sure is no shortage of '60s films about a straight, middle-aged guy having his life turned upside down by a chance encounter with a hot, young "swinger." Um, this is another one. The young Ann-Margret is always good for a testosterone rush but, typically, the dialogue is full of dated jargon. Wish I had taken notes on the worst lines. "Hey, big daddy...all the cats are making the scene! Ain't this just the living end?" That sort of gibberish. "Kitten with a Whip" (if only the film were as good as its title) didn't seem to do the careers of Ann-Margret and John Forsythe any harm, so enjoy this campy trash with a clear conscience.
User ReviewGregory WNice to see Ann-Margaret branch out but I still find her shrill and grating, even when she's not singing or doing her bizarre herky jerky style of dance. This is a dopey little potboiler that was probably popular as a drive-in movie. Good performances all around but none of the characters are all that likable so it's hard to care what happens to any of them - even the supposed good guys.
User ReviewJeff BThis is not really a bad movie, especially considering the time. Still MST3K definitely improved it.
